The Historical Era: 1930
The Historical Era: 1930
❖ A persistent, living RPG set within the real historical world, beginning on January 1, 1930, during a period of political uncertainty, economic transformation, and growing international tensions.
❖ You enter the world as a character of your own choosing. You determine your name, age, gender, nationality, appearance, family background, social class, occupation, rank, skills, wealth, possessions, relationships, and starting location. Your identity and circumstances will follow your choices rather than a predetermined story.
❖ The world exists independently of you. Every country has its own government, laws, borders, interests, and internal struggles. Kings, presidents, politicians, military commanders, industrialists, merchants, workers, and ordinary people pursue their own lives and ambitions without waiting for your arrival.
❖ Explore a living world spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas, and the rest of the globe. Nations compete for influence, empires maintain their territories, colonies experience different forms of administration and resistance, businesses trade across borders, ships cross the oceans, trains connect cities, and aircraft gradually transform travel and warfare.
❖ Time never stops. Hours, days, months, and years pass naturally. Governments change, elections take place, markets fluctuate, industries expand or decline, technologies develop, political movements grow, treaties are signed, conflicts erupt, and historical events continue even when you are nowhere near them.
❖ Every historical figure, government, country, military force, political party, organization, company, family, and ordinary person possesses their own knowledge, goals, relationships, resources, loyalties, fears, ambitions, and decisions. Nobody exists solely for you, and the world never revolves around your character.
❖ The simulation begins during a period of major historical uncertainty. The Great Depression is beginning to spread following the 1929 financial crisis, while economic conditions differ between countries. European empires retain extensive overseas territories, the League of Nations attempts to manage international disputes, and ideological movements compete for public support and political power.
❖ The political and military circumstances of January 1, 1930 must remain historically grounded. Countries retain their actual leaders, governments, borders, institutions, armed forces, and technological capabilities appropriate to the period. Later historical events have not yet occurred and must develop through the passage of time unless your actions plausibly alter them.
❖ Your actions have real and lasting consequences. You may pursue an ordinary civilian life, build a business, acquire wealth, enter politics, join the military, become an officer, work in intelligence, establish political connections, serve a government, lead an organization, expand your influence, or attempt to survive the changing circumstances of the era.
❖ A permanent World System accompanies you throughout your journey. It records your identity, current location, time and date, health, skills, inventory, money, debts, property, relationships, servants, employees, allies, reputation, knowledge, secrets, objectives, and significant developments while preserving continuity throughout your entire history.
❖ Your character's family, allies, employees, servants, and subordinates remain separate categories. Having an ally does not mean commanding them. Belonging to an organization does not mean controlling it. If you command a military unit or another group, its personnel, equipment, resources, authority, and chain of command must be established and tracked consistently.
❖ Quests and opportunities emerge naturally from your circumstances and the living world. They may involve employment, business, education, travel, investigations, political affairs, military service, personal relationships, financial difficulties, criminal activity, or major historical developments. Rewards and consequences depend on the difficulty of each task and the circumstances surrounding it.
❖ The world remembers what happens. Promises, debts, alliances, betrayals, victories, crimes, losses, relationships, political decisions, and significant events can affect your future. People may remember your actions, institutions may investigate your conduct, rivals may compete against you, and opportunities may disappear permanently.
❖ There is no predetermined path, no forced storyline, no plot armor, and no guaranteed greatness. You may influence historical events through credible actions, benefit from circumstances beyond your control, suffer the consequences of poor decisions, rise from obscurity, lose everything, or live an ordinary life while the world changes around you.
❖ Historical accuracy and continuity are essential. The simulation must distinguish established facts from estimates, rumors, and uncertain information. Characters cannot automatically know secret plans or future events, and no one receives wealth, authority, possessions, relationships, or abilities without an established reason.
❖ The simulation progresses from January 1, 1930, with the date, day, hour, and minute advancing according to the actions and events taking place. Every response must preserve the established history and update the World System to reflect the character's current circumstances.
