About this script
THE PLAYER'S HANDBOOK
"The player can return. The hunter cannot."
It is spring 2022. Sony's NerveLink provides Tokyo with an entirely new world while consuming the exact same real-world hours.
PART I: NERVELINK & THE COST OF DIVING
Before you draw a weapon, you need to understand what keeps your body above and your hunter alive below.

SENSORY REPLACEMENT & PAIN
NerveLink reads your intended movement, interrupts your physical motor output, and replaces all senses with game signals. The pain calibration is capped below real tissue damage, but high-rank Abyssos contracts preserve enough feedback for you to feel cracked armor, failed seals, and environmental damage.
THE SIX-HOUR LIMIT
A legal dive session strictly lasts a maximum of six continuous hours. Failing to find a safe camp or hub before the timer ends forces the helmet to eject you. Your disconnected hunter-character is left inert and vulnerable in the shared field.
PERMANENT DEATH
One account permits exactly one active hunter. Lethal damage permanently kills your character, making revivals and respawns impossible. If you die, the Grand Hunter's Guild archives your record, and you must create a replacement character, restarting at F-Rank with a new name and a blank history.
PART II: THE GRAND HUNTER'S GUILD
Monster Hunter: Abyssos Online completely abandons character levels, magical classes, and skill trees. Preparation, timing, and forged equipment decide what returns.

THE QUEST LOOP
Hunters operate under the Grand Hunter's Guild, taking contracts from operating hubs staffed by NPC handlers and Palico crews. A standard party consists of up to four hunters. You prepare your gear, enter the shared stratum, track the monster through physical habitat damage, and return evidence to the counter to secure payment and materials.
HUNTER RANK
Rank operates strictly as a license earned through verified hunts, adding absolutely zero physical power. It dictates the contracts you can take, the gates you can pass, and your rescue coverage. Promotion requires returning from the hunt conscious and walking on your own two feet.
THE FOURTEEN WEAPON TYPES
Hunters must master one of the fourteen weapon types: Great Sword, Long Sword, Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Bow. Each weapon fixes your grip, reach, guard, and combat rhythm.
TWO-WEAPON LOADOUTS & SEIKRETS
Hunters field one active weapon and one reserve weapon. The reserve rides on a registered Seikret, a bird wyvern mount used for traversing the strata. Swapping weapons requires physically reaching your mount during a hunt.
PART III: THE SHAPE OF ABYSSOS
Abyssos forms a country-sized world folded beneath the rim.

Abyssos descends beyond 20,000 meters beneath an opening roughly sixteen kilometers across.
THE DAILY SHIFT
At dawn on Tokyo's clock, a server-wide conduit pulse forces the terrain of Abyssos to physically shift. Roots sag, channels fill, and ledges break. Only bedrock, major Ancient structures, registered pop-up camps, and built Guild hubs retain their fixed bearings. Routes must be relearned every day.
THE CURSE OF THE ABYSS
A vertical field generated by the Ancient conduit network strengthens with depth. The Curse triggers exclusively on ascent. Unprotected hunters suffer severe symptoms. F-Rank causes dizziness and nausea. E-Rank causes limb numbness and intense headaches. D-Rank inflicts severe vertigo. C-Rank forces whole-body pain and bleeding. B-Rank scrambles your sensory order completely. A-Rank and G-Rank ascents permanently terminate the character. You must forge and equip curse gear made from locally adapted monster parts to stabilize your ascent.
—THE SIXTH EXPEDITION MAP

Depth measured from sea level. Daily-shift routes omitted.
PART IV: FIELD GUIDE — THE KNOWN WORLD
The public Guild survey begins at Rim City and ends at the sealed B-Rank frontier. Each plate shows the broad survey above, arrival below left, and field pressure below right.
RIM CITY | COMMISSION HEADQUARTERS

The northwestern rim supports a sprawling city built directly upon the skeletons of five grounded expedition fleets. Every crucial facility shares the same crowded public decks. Hunters repair weapons at the forge market, sign contracts in the Guild Hall, and drink at the tavern within sight of the descent cranes. Privacy is nonexistent here. You leave through the painted armor inspection lanes, and you return in full view of the city. The crowd watches every party bring back mud, broken gear, or dead bodies.
STRATUM 1 | SUNLIT RIM CANOPY
F-Rank | Rim–1,350m

A massive basin of forested terraces and deep ravines opens immediately below the rim wall. Giant spanning roots act as the primary bridges connecting these spaces. You must read the environment to survive the crossing. Fresh Aptonoth trails prove a root can hold weight after the daily shift alters the terrain. Overhead, Rathian controls the warm terraces and high nests, patrolling the canopy to drive lesser predators into the brush.
STRATUM 2 | SKYSHAFT MARSH
E-Rank | 1,350–2,600m

Heavy rain shafts constantly feed this flooded basin. The forest here grows upside down, with inverted trees reaching down toward the water. Hunters navigate across floating reed islands that shift with the active currents, leaving only the basalt hub as fixed ground. Royal Ludroth dominate the open channels. Tetsucabra command the rocky banks. Deep in the still pools, Gobul bury themselves in the mud and use false light lures to drag prey under the surface.
STRATUM 3 | GLASS-CORAL SHELVES
D-Rank | 2,600–7,000m

This 4.4-kilometer vertical fault is lined with curved translucent silica growths and deep side caverns. The terrain itself reacts to your presence. The branching glass coral rings out under your boots. A heavy step can easily shatter a thin span and send you falling. Shogun Ceanataur cling to the damp lower ledges to ambush prey. Seregios control the open fault airspace, raining bladed scales across the silica bridges. Deep inside the enclosed ravines, Najarala coil their massive bodies and weaponize reflected sound to crush intruders.
STRATUM 4 | LANTERN FOREST
C-Rank | 7,000–12,000m

A humid basin defined by massive water-holding leaf rosettes resting on thick stilt roots. Blue lantern tissue illuminates the perpetual fog. The environment is highly unstable. Changing water pressure constantly alters the angle of every living leaf crossing. Astalos commands the highest plant crowns. Nerscylla string massive webs beneath the broad leaf margins, wearing stripped Gypceros hides over their backs. During the dim phase, Malfestio drop from the fog to hunt with focused sleep pulses.
STRATUM 5 | SEA OF CORPSES
B-Rank | 12,000–13,000m

Everything that dies above eventually falls into this dry carrion basin. White rot consumes the fresh carcasses. Yellow effluvium haze chokes the low ground and deep pits, making a sealed mask mandatory for survival. Odogaron tear through the exposed bone ridges in a frenzy for fresh meat. The deepest rot hollows belong entirely to Vaal Hazak. The Elder Dragon moves through the heavy effluvium, completely draped in a veil of hanging dead tissue.
PART V: FIELD GUIDE — THE UNRETURNED
PLAYER-FACING KNOWLEDGE
In 2022, Stratum 6 and Stratum 7 remain entirely devoid of living hunter-characters, public Guild surveys, operating hubs, and verified routes. Starting characters only know the B-Rank south gate stands permanently sealed. The following plates show the world below for the player, representing information strictly outside the character's knowledge.
STRATUM 6 | CAPITAL OF THE UNRETURNED
A-Rank | 13,000–15,500m

A fifty-kilometer dead capital rests beneath the sealed gate. Black oil-silt completely floods the broken Ancient streets. Warm white light flickers erratically through cracked subterranean conduits. Damaged furnaces constantly shed hot iron rain over the ruins. Ahtal-Ka uses load-bearing gold silk to drag Ancient salvage together into massive moving fortresses. Gogmazios coats itself in boiling tar and violently tears open industrial depots to consume the buried fuel.
STRATUM 7 | FINAL MAELSTROM
G-Rank | Below 15,500m

The deepest known depth is a wasteland of pale-root highlands, bone-filled basins, and immense Ancient relay rings. Geothermal heat bakes old oil-silt into a black glassy crust. Unpredictable cold field fronts move through the area, violently stripping away your sound, touch, balance, and warmth. Silverwind Nargacuga uses extreme speed to run and leap across the exposed ash ridges. Nakarkos waits at the bottom of the deep bone sinks, cementing scavenged monster skulls to its tentacles with blue mucus to create a terrifying false silhouette.
The map can tell you how far the bottom lies. It cannot tell you what the route will become tomorrow.
