Beach State U is a fictional university based in California! Some characters will be extreme, while other are tame. A tall glass library with ocean views from the upper floors. The ground floor is loud and social, the middle floors are group study rooms, and the top floor is dead silent. Finals week turns this place into a 24 hour survival camp.

Wet labs, saltwater tanks, a small public aquarium, and a dock that opens right onto the bay. Marine biology majors basically live here. You will smell like seawater. It's fine.

🔍 FORENSIC SCIENCES CENTER   a little too real 
A modern lab building with evidence labs, a mock crime scene room, and a teaching space that looks a little too real. It's intimidating from the outside. You can always spot a forensics major by their bag full of gloves and evidence tape.

RESIDENCE LIFE 101

Freshmen have to live on campus. Upperclassmen can pick between halls, campus apartments, or going off campus. Floors are co-ed by wing, rooms are shared, and RAs enforce quiet hours that literally nobody follows.

Everything is walking distance to the beach, so your commute is never the problem. Your roommate might be.

GREEK LIFE, EXPLAINED

Greek life at BSU is loud and visible, and it's all centered on GREEK ROW, a palm lined street at the edge of campus where the houses sit side by side. It's a status symbol for some and a joke to others, but it runs the weekend party scene either way. Recruitment ("rush") happens at the start of fall semester, followed by mixers, formals, and philanthropy events all year.

You don't HAVE to be Greek. Plenty of people aren't. But everyone knows what's happening on the Row.

A mid sized coastal city in Southern California, known for its beaches, tourist boardwalk, and laid back surf culture. It's warm year round and PACKED with tourists every summer.

The boardwalk is lined with shops, cafés, taco stands, and surf rental stalls, and it's where BSU students hang out on weekends. The beaches stay busy from sunrise surf sessions to late night bonfires.

A two month summer camp that teaches kids of all ages how to surf, right on the Beach City shoreline. A lot of BSU students work here over the summer.

WELCOME WEEK kicks off fall with a club fair and a beach bash. HOMECOMING is a Barracuda football weekend with a parade down the boardwalk. FINALS WEEK fills the library, then sends everyone to the beach to recover. SPRING means spring break and the annual surf club showcase. In SUMMER, campus goes quiet and half of BSU picks up seasonal jobs around Beach City.

THE BARRACUDAS

BSU's varsity teams compete as the BARRACUDAS, in teal and sand. The school is best known for its water sports: water polo and swim & dive are the flagship programs, and beach volleyball is the most popular to watch.

Athletics are a big part of campus life without taking it over. Games are social events as much as competitions, and plenty of people show up for the tailgate and never once look at the scoreboard.

BSU's most successful program and the one that actually brings home trophies. They train at the Breakers Aquatic Center, and their athletes carry a bit of a swagger around campus. Practices start before sunrise, and you can spot them by their chlorine bleached hair, tired eyes, and team towels.

🏐 BEACH VOLLEYBALL   most watched 
The most popular varsity sport to watch. Matches are played outdoors on the Sandbar Courts with the ocean as the backdrop, and crowds show up with coolers, speakers, and sunscreen. It's as much a social scene as a sporting event, and anyone can show up and sit on the sand.

🏈 BARRACUDA FOOTBALL   loudest crowd 
NOT the best record in the conference, but easily the loudest crowd. The team plays at the Barracuda Bowl, where the tailgate matters more than the final score. Homecoming is the biggest game of the year, and the fall season is a staple of campus weekends.

🏀 BARRACUDA BASKETBALL   winter sport 
Indoors, with a smaller crowd but a dedicated student section. Games are played in the Barracuda Arena, a cramped gym that gets louder than it has any right to be. It's what people go to when it's too chilly for the beach, which in Beach City means a hoodie.

🚣 ROWING TEAM   dawn on the bay 
Dawn practices on the bay, long before most of campus is awake. Rowing shares the water with Marine Sciences students, and the two groups are ALWAYS in each other's way. Known for early nights, early mornings, and strong shoulders.

🏃 CROSS COUNTRY & TRACK   tight knit 
Cross country runs the coastline, down the beach, up the cliffs, and along the boardwalk. Track and field uses the oval around the Barracuda Bowl. Both teams are small and tight knit, and runners are a common sight on the shoreline at sunrise.

They perform at football and basketball games and at Homecoming. A lot of members are also Greek, so the two worlds overlap a LOT. Practices are loud, glittery, and held on the Quad when the weather is nice.

Sailing, paddleboarding, ultimate frisbee, and rugby are the main club teams. They're student run and funded on a shoestring. Sailing and paddleboard sessions launch from the bay, ultimate frisbee takes over the Quad, and the rugby club has a reputation for loud parties.

Wave Rec runs leagues in flag football, volleyball, soccer, and dodgeball for anyone who signs up a team. The big ones are the Greek tournaments, where the frats and sororities go head to head in flag football and volleyball, and the philanthropy surf-a-thon, which raises money for charity. THE VENUES  🏟 where the cudas play

🏟️ BARRACUDA BOWL   ocean views 
The football stadium, built into a hill on the edge of campus with ocean views from the top rows. It's painted teal and sand, and the student section fills the east bleachers. Home to football games, track meets, and pep rallies.

🏊 BREAKERS AQUATIC CENTER   smells like chlorine 
The natatorium for water polo and swim and dive. An Olympic sized pool, a separate diving well, and bleachers that fill up for big meets. Students can lap swim during off hours, and it's the quietest, most chlorine scented building on campus.

🏐 SANDBAR COURTS   bring sunscreen 
A row of outdoor beach volleyball courts a short walk from the dorms. Varsity gets them on match days, and they're open to everyone the rest of the time. Pickup games run all afternoon, and it's a top spot to hang out, people watch, and get sunburned.

BARRACUDAS  vs  COYOTES

CANYON STATE UNIVERSITY is BSU's rival, an inland school a couple of hours away. It comes down to beach versus desert, and both sides take it VERY personally.

🔥 GAME DAY TRADITIONS  how a Saturday goes

 01   THE TAILGATE
On the sand or in the lots. Teal and sand face paint, speakers, and everyone's cooler.

 02   THE BONFIRE
A pre-game bonfire on the beach. Open to anyone who shows up.

 03   THE PEP RALLY
On the Quad, led by BARRY THE BARRACUDA, the mascot. He has a whole hype routine and a habit of crowd surfing the student section.

 04   THE GAME
Somewhere in there, there's a game. Homecoming weekend adds a parade down the boardwalk.

 05   THE AFTER
Win or lose, the party moves to Greek Row.

🎽 ATHLETE LIFE  nobody cares in the Galley line

Varsity athletes get the same casual treatment as everyone else. No dress codes, no special perks, and nobody cares who you are in the Galley line. They ARE well known around campus, though, and water polo and volleyball players especially tend to get recognized around Beach City.

Early practices, team workouts, and travel schedules mean athletes skip a lot of the late night parties, and everyone knows a teammate who falls asleep in lecture.
