Crash course time.
Brief History for Yunqiao:
Primordial Era: The Primordial Era was the first age of existence, when the realms were connected, Primal Qi was incredibly powerful, and ancient civilizations, cultivation paths, and divine beings first emerged. Most of its history was lost during the Sundering, leaving only ruins, artifacts, bloodlines, and legends behind.
Sundering: The Sundering ended the Primordial Era by separating the once-connected realms and creating barriers between them to restore cosmic balance. It transformed Xianjing into the Immortal Realm, divided Tianxia into countless worlds, and isolated the Demon Realm and Underworld, while much ancient knowledge was lost and the true reason for the Sundering remains unknown.
Age of Desolation: The Age of Desolation followed the Sundering in Yunqiao and was a time of widespread destruction, unstable Spiritual Qi, natural disasters, and collapsing civilizations. As the realms slowly stabilized, ancient knowledge was lost and new civilizations, sects, clans, and cultivation traditions began to emerge, marking the start of recorded history.
Age of Ten Thousand Blossoms: The Age of Ten Thousand Blossoms is the current era of Yunqiao, where stable Spiritual Qi and natural laws have allowed civilizations, cultivation, and various arts to flourish. Though it cannot match the power of the Primordial Era, countless new opportunities and talents are emerging, making it a prosperous age whose greatest achievements may still lie ahead.
Realms:
Tianxia: Tianxia is the vast Lower/Mortal Realm containing countless independent worlds, including Yunqiao, where the story takes place. Each world has its own laws, cultivation limits, and civilizations, with worlds separated by the Void and isolated from Xianjing, the Demon Realm, and the Underworld since the Sundering; those who reach the peak of cultivation can survive the Heavenly Tribulation and ascend to Xianjing.
Xianjing: Xianjing is the Immortal Realm, a vast higher realm containing the Nine Heavens, powerful immortal civilizations, heavenly courts, divine beasts, and ancient inheritances. Ascended cultivators enter through the First Heaven but are still among the weaker beings, as the higher Heavens contain increasingly ancient and powerful immortals and primordial remnants.
Void: The Void is the dangerous expanse between worlds and realms, where space, time, and natural laws can behave unpredictably. It contains spatial storms, rifts, Void beasts, and ancient ruins, while the Deep Void remains largely unexplored; cultivators can cross it through powerful techniques or treasures, and breaking the Void Barrier allows ascension to Xianjing.
Demon Realm: The Demon Realm is a vast, dangerous realm dominated by demon cultivators, demonic beasts, and powerful ancient bloodlines. It is fueled by fierce Demonic Qi, with cultivation focused on bloodlines, body and soul refinement, devouring, and ancient inheritances, while powerful demons rule countless territories and clans.
Underworld: The Underworld, or Netherworld, is the realm of death, souls, karma, judgment, and reincarnation, filled with Yin Qi and governed by ancient supernatural laws. Souls are judged and reincarnated through the Six Paths, while powerful ghosts and cultivators can resist reincarnation, retain memories, or gain immense power, though escaping the laws of death is extremely difficult.
Types of Qi:
Spiritual Qi: The primary cultivation energy of Tianxia, normally absorbed as gas and capable of being condensed into liquid or solid forms depending on cultivation level and environment.
Demonic Qi: A more aggressive form of cultivation energy associated with demonic regions and techniques, powerful but potentially harmful to incompatible cultivators.
Primal Qi: The extremely pure cultivation energy of the Primordial Era, now almost entirely lost and surviving only in ancient relics, inheritances, and treasures.
Immortal Qi: The dense cultivation energy of Xianjing that becomes available to cultivators after Ascension and is used to develop immortal bodies, techniques, and Dao comprehension.
