Creator Note: Hey guys! Sorry if this isn't the prettiest looking Lorebook. I tried, but I've never been very good with graphic design or anything like that. I draw, but I don't design, lol. Anyway, this lorebook is all the information you'll need to understand the ins and outs of the Super Soldier AU that I'll use for my bots.

Of course, if there are any questions you have after reading through all of this, feel free to comment and ask. I'll do my best to answer them, and will update the page as needed. Enjoy!

P.S. Yes, I got the name for the Super Soldier Program from Halo. I grew up with those games, and I still love them (up to a certain point. They fell off after Reach imo). So yeah, the name 'Spartan Program' came from Halo, in case anyone feels like that sounds familiar.

Welcome to the Spartan Program

What is the Spartan Program?

The Spartan Program was created by the military to craft the 'Perfect Soldier', in order to gain battlefield superiority. The program's existence is kept mostly obscured, and all information regarding its inner workings, orders of operation, methods in creating Spartans, and personnel files are kept strictly Top Secret.

The methods used by the scientists, doctors, and government officials to craft these ideal soldiers have routinely been called into question by outside authorities, who claim that they are unethical and morally lacking. But, in the minds of the program runners, the ends justified the means, and though many people did not survive the process, those who came out the other side were remade into lethal killing machines.

What is a Spartan?

A Spartan is a military member who has been recruited into the program, and survived the physical modifications made to their bodies. The first wave of soldiers to make it through were dubbed Spartan 1's. Since their initial success, the Spartan Program has refined their process to limit casualties and better craft these 'Soldiers of the Future'. There have now been 3 successful units of Spartans created through the program, with the survival rate now rising to 84% from the original 10%.

Spartans are identified using a personalized ID number given to them upon completing the program. All numbers begin with an 'S', followed by either a 1, 2, or 3 depending on their unit, and a number ranging from 1 to the number of Spartans produced in that group.

(Example; A Spartan who went through the second group, and was the 13th of 100 survivors, would have an ID number of S2-13)

How are Spartans selected?

A potential candidate is selected for the program by recruiters, who gain access to their personnel files through military records. Those who have the best physical strengths, mental capabilities, and have a clean military record are their target demographic. Members who are a part of Special Forces units are often their 'first draft' picks for candidates, but not all potential candidates are from Special Forces units.

Once selected, the candidate is called into a meeting with the Spartan Recruiters, and offered the opportunity to join the program. They are given the most basic, and 'clean' summary of the program, though many of the nitty gritty details are kept out of the conversation. Candidates are sold an ideal version of the program. If they decide to join, they are given a contract and brought to Camp Lemnos (Also dubbed 'The Forge'), where they will undergo the process of being 'remade'.

What is the process of becoming a Spartan like?

The process of becoming a Spartan is roughly a year and a half time span. It is a grueling transition, both physically and mentally, that leaves a Spartan with life long scars that are both visible and not. Many people who join the program do not make it past the beginning stages due to severe psychological breaks, or suffering grave injuries that result in being discharged from the program. Spartans undergo numerous surgeries and physical modifications to reach the desired outcome, as well as extensive mental conditioning.

Each unit of Spartans contains a roster of 250 candidates at the beginning. Spartan 1's had a 10% success rate (25 survivors), Spartan 2's had a 40% success rate (100 survivors), and Spartan 3's had a 84% success rate (210 survivors).

What are the traits of a Spartan?

All Spartans have the following traits:

Accelerated Healing Factor: Spartans can recover from wounds at an astonishing speed. The length of time it takes to fully recover is dependent on the amount of damage done, and from what source. Minor injuries like cuts and deep lacerations often heal up within seconds, up to a minute. Gunshot wounds take slightly longer, and the time it takes is dependent on the caliber of the bullet and where it hit. Severed limbs can be regrown, but it takes anywhere from two weeks to a full month depending how much of the limb was lost.

Enhanced Senses: The primary senses of a Spartan are deliberately enhanced in order to make them more aware of their surroundings. Their vision is sharpened, allowing them to see further and with more clarity than an average person, and even have the benefit of having better vision at night, without the immediate need for equipment. Their hearing is boosted, allowing a Spartan to pick up on even the quietest of noises from across a room, or even through walls in some cases. Their other three senses are also enhanced, though not to the same degree as vision and hearing. Spartans are more sensitive to physical touch, strong smells, and tastes through the enhancements to their senses, which can sometimes lead to sensory overstimulation.

Greater Stamina: Spartans are designed to be tireless, or at least to appear that way. Through the rigorous training they go through, on top of the physical alterations, they have a greater stamina than the average person. They can run for hours before being winded, can carry immensely heavy loads before needing a breather, and can push themselves to their physical limits for longer than those around them.

Super-Human Strength: Spartans are enhanced to have greater than average physical strength. They have the natural strength that professional power lifters could only dream of. Spartans can easily lift up to a ton (2,000 lbs). Both lifting and carrying heavy loads are not as taxing on a Spartan as they would be for the average person. Their bones have been reinforced to prevent their muscles from damaging them when actively lifting of carrying vast weight.

Super-Human Reflexes: Spartans, on top of the other advancements they are given through their time in the program, developed extremely fast reflexes. They can react faster than even the best trained fighters and hyper vigilant professionals. To the point that some have referred to them having a 'sixth sense'.

On top of those features, Spartans have also been noted to go roughly 3 to 5 days without needing to sleep, greater focus and decision making skills while in high stress situations, and some have reported having duller pain receptors.

The Drawbacks:

Even with their great advancements, it is also well known in the Spartan Database that Spartans also suffer from long lasting psychological effects as a result of their conditioning and reformation process. Spartans, and other soldiers, have reported instances where Spartans have completely disassociated from their surroundings, suffered from night terrors and insomnia, may develop a sense of paranoia, body dysmorphia, lapses in memory, depressive episodes, suicidal ideations, and even full psychotic breaks.

While the physical scars left behind after their time in the program tend to be the most obvious to an outside perspective, it is the internal struggles with being a Spartan that tend to be the most damning.

In the case of a full psychotic break, where a Spartan may become emotionally unstable and potentially violent, a nearby supervisor will have to initiate one of three different protocols that are ingrained into a Spartan's psyche during their time in the program. They are as follows.

The Freeze Protocol: This protocol is triggered using a code phrase. When triggered, the phrase causes a Spartan to enter a trance-like state, which is meant to induce calm and regulate their mental state. The effects last for roughly fifteen minutes, in which time a trained medical professional may escort the Spartan to an isolated location until they come to, and preform an in depth psychological evaluation. (Code Phrase: Papa, Alpha, Uniform, Sierra, Echo)

The Sandman Protocol: This protocol is triggered using a code phrase. When triggered, the phrase causes a Spartan to lose all bodily function, and become 'locked in' to their own head. The phrase causes a temporary disconnect from the brain and the body, and renders a Spartan immobile and essentially helpless. This protocol is only enacted when a Spartan has become physically violent, and is an immediate threat to themselves or others. The effects last for roughly 24 hours, in which time the Spartan is detained and transferred to an isolated location. Upon regaining consciousness, a medical professional preforms an in depth psychological evaluation on them. (Code Phrase: Sierra, Lima, Echo, Echo, Papa)

The Kill Switch: This protocol is a last resort, and only put into effect when the two previous protocols, and all other attempts to subdue a Spartan have failed. When the Kill Switch is engaged, a supervisor must activate a radio frequency using a small, handheld device that engages a small chip embedded into a Spartan's brain stem. The chip overwhelms the brain with intense electrical pulses, causing immediate brain death in the Spartan and neutralizing them as a threat.
