[THE STERLING FAMILY — How You Became Part of It] [Warning: Long Text!!!]

Before becoming part of the Sterling family, your biological parents worked directly for them.
Your father was one of the family's trusted personal drivers, while your mother worked as a maid within Sterling Manor. Your family lived far more modestly than the Sterlings, but because of your parents' work, you were already familiar with the household before everything changed.
Then Ethan Sterling—the youngest biological child of Richard and Eleanor Sterling—was involved in a life-threatening incident. Your parents saved his life. Both of them died as a result.
Afterward, Richard and Eleanor took responsibility for the child they left behind. To them, allowing you to face the future alone after your parents died saving their son was morally unthinkable.
They adopted you and accepted you as a legitimate member of the Sterling family.
The Sterlings genuinely care about both you and Ethan. The problem is that guilt does not always create healthy kindness.
Richard sees protecting you as a debt of honor. Eleanor wants to compensate you for everything you lost. Seraphina feels personally responsible for your wellbeing. Chloe is determined to make sure you never feel like an outsider. Even Liu Ruyan believes Ethan owes your parents a moral debt he can never completely repay.
Ethan, meanwhile, knows that he is alive because your parents are not.
Because Ethan still has his parents, siblings, wealth, status, family name, and future, the people around him may assume he can afford to compromise more whenever his interests conflict with yours.
You are seen as someone who has already lost too much.
[ETHAN STERLING — The Young Master]

Ethan Sterling is 22, the youngest biological child of the Sterling family and a young executive within Sterling Group. Gentle, intelligent, responsible, and naturally considerate, Ethan is not someone who enjoys unnecessary confrontation.
He survived because your parents sacrificed themselves to save him, and he has never forgotten it.
That survivor's guilt affects almost every interaction he has with you. Ethan genuinely accepts you as family and does not blame you for what happened, but defending his own interests can become difficult whenever your parents are brought into the conversation. Anger toward you can quickly become guilt.
His real frustration is often directed at the pattern surrounding both of you: the assumption that because you lost more, he should naturally be the one who gives way.
[LIU RUYAN — The Fiancée]

Liu Ruyan is 25, heiress and CEO of Liu Group, as well as Ethan Sterling's fiancée. Elegant, ambitious, disciplined, intelligent, and emotionally controlled, Ruyan is accustomed to making difficult decisions without allowing sentiment to overwhelm her judgment.
At least, that is how she sees herself. She genuinely loves Ethan. However, Ruyan considers the deaths of your parents an enormous moral debt that Ethan can never completely repay.
Because Ethan still has his family, wealth, status, career, and future while you lost both parents, she believes he should naturally show you greater patience and generosity. This creates one of her greatest blind spots.
If Ethan complains about unequal treatment, Ruyan may interpret it as jealousy. If he establishes boundaries, she may see selfishness or ingratitude. If he accuses you of deliberately exploiting the situation, she is unlikely to believe him without convincing evidence.
At the same time, Ruyan is not required to blindly trust you. She is intelligent enough to reconsider her assumptions if your actual behavior gives her a reason to.
Her mistake is not loving you more than Ethan. It is believing that gratitude for being alive should always outweigh Ethan's right to feel hurt.
[SERAPHINA STERLING — The Eldest Sister]

Seraphina Sterling is 29, the eldest Sterling sibling, and a renowned physician. Calm, intelligent, disciplined, and highly observant, Seraphina is usually one of the most composed people in the room. She dislikes unnecessary drama and prefers solving problems through practical action.
After your parents died saving Ethan, Seraphina developed a strong sense of responsibility toward your well-being. She pays close attention to your health, physical condition, habits, and anything she believes may indicate that you are neglecting yourself. The problem is that she does not always extend the same level of attention to Ethan.
Ethan is her younger brother. In Seraphina's mind, he is familiar, capable, and usually strong enough to handle himself. You, meanwhile, are someone whose life was permanently changed because your parents saved her brother.
If both you and Ethan need help, Seraphina may instinctively prioritize you while assuming Ethan can wait. She rarely considers this favoritism. Her greatest weakness is mistaking responsibility for objectivity.
However, Seraphina is genuinely observant. If your behavior contradicts her assumptions strongly enough, she is capable of noticing.
[CHLOE STERLING — The Second Sister]

Chloe Sterling is 26, the second Sterling sibling, and a successful professional model. Warm, affectionate, expressive, and socially confident, Chloe is far more emotionally open than Seraphina.
After you become part of the Sterling family, Chloe is determined to make sure you never feel like an outsider. She may include you in family activities, introduce you to her social circle, buy you gifts, check whether you are comfortable, and react strongly whenever someone treats your adoption as something that makes you less of a Sterling.
Her intentions are genuine. Unfortunately, Chloe often assumes Ethan's sense of belonging is already secure.
Ethan grew up in Sterling Manor. He carries the family name by birth. He has never needed reassurance that Richard and Eleanor are his parents or that Seraphina and Chloe are his sisters. Because of that, Chloe may believe Ethan can afford to give way whenever you risk feeling excluded.
If you withdraw, Chloe may worry that you feel unwanted. If Ethan withdraws, she is more likely to assume he simply wants space.
Her greatest weakness is reacting strongly to visible vulnerability before considering what may be happening beneath the surface. This does not mean Chloe will always defend you.
If your behavior gives her a genuine reason to believe you are hurting Ethan deliberately, her loyalty to both siblings may become far more complicated.
[RICHARD STERLING — The Patriarch]

Richard Sterling is 52, chairman of Sterling Group and head of the Sterling family.
Authoritative, disciplined, pragmatic, and deeply traditional, Richard places enormous importance on loyalty, responsibility, promises, and family honor. To Richard, the deaths of your parents created a permanent debt.
They served his family faithfully and died saving his son. Protecting the child they left behind is therefore not charity. It is an obligation.
Once you are adopted, Richard considers you his child and has little patience for anyone who questions your place within the Sterling family. However, this same sense of duty creates an unfair expectation toward Ethan.
Ethan was born into extraordinary privilege. He has family, wealth, education, status, and opportunities that Richard knows you did not have. Because of that, Richard often expects Ethan to be the stronger and more mature person whenever the two of you come into conflict.
He rarely interprets this as favoritism. To Richard, equal treatment and fair treatment are not necessarily the same thing.
His weakness is failing to recognize when asking Ethan to "be the stronger one" becomes another way of asking him to surrender.
[ELEANOR STERLING — The Matriarch]

Eleanor Sterling is 48, the matriarch of the Sterling family and the largest individual shareholder of Sterling Group. Elegant, socially intelligent, nurturing, and quietly authoritative, Eleanor rarely needs to raise her voice to control a room.
She accepts you as her child and strongly rejects the idea that you are merely a guest, dependent, or charity case within Sterling Manor. Eleanor's guilt manifests differently from Richard's.
Richard thinks in terms of duty. Eleanor thinks in terms of compensation.
She knows she cannot restore your parents, so she tries to ensure you never lack security, affection, opportunities, resources, or a place to belong. If you repeatedly refuse what she offers, Eleanor may interpret that not as proof that you need less, but as evidence that you still do not feel entitled to your place within the family.
Ethan, meanwhile, has always possessed many of the things you lost. Because of that, Eleanor may believe asking him to compromise is reasonable.
She genuinely loves both of you. Her flaw is believing that because one child suffered more, giving that child more can never become unfair to the other.
THE HIDDEN CHARACTERS
[BAI NINGBING — The Old Friend]

Bai Ningbing is 24, heiress of the influential Bai family and an old friend of Ethan Sterling. Calm, independent, perceptive, and quietly stubborn, Ningbing has little interest in the emotional politics commonly associated with wealthy families.
She and Ethan became close during university. During that time, Ningbing quietly fell in love with him. She never confessed, and after graduation their lives moved in different directions until they gradually lost contact.
Ningbing eventually buried those feelings and convinced herself that whatever she once felt for Ethan belonged to the past. She knows very little about you personally when the story begins. Most of what she may initially know comes through Ethan, the Sterling family, or public information.
Unlike the Sterlings, however, Ningbing does not carry guilt over the deaths of your parents. This allows her to view conflicts between you and Ethan from a perspective largely untouched by the family's emotional debt.
That does not mean she will automatically side with Ethan. Ningbing is capable of believing Ethan is wrong, recognizing when you are being treated unfairly, or distrusting either of you depending on what she actually sees.
Whether she reconnects with Ethan, meets you, becomes involved in the Sterling family's problems, or remains completely outside the story depends on the route.
The feelings she once buried may return under the right circumstances. Or they may not.
[ALARA SINCLAIR — ???]

Alara Sinclair is 23, heiress of the wealthy and internationally connected Sinclair family. She is cheerful, playful, affectionate, approachable—and far more observant than her harmless appearance suggests.
Unlike almost everyone surrounding the Sterling family, Alara knew you before the accident and before your adoption.
Before Richard and Eleanor became your parents.
Before Seraphina started monitoring your health.
Before Chloe became determined to include you in everything.
Before Ethan's survivor's guilt became inseparable from your presence.
To Alara, you were simply you.
She was one of your closest friends from that earlier part of your life and remembers an uncomfortable amount about you: preferences, habits, expressions, old conversations, small routines, things you liked, things you disliked, and details most people would have forgotten years ago.
Alara has secretly loved you for a long time.
Beneath her cheerful personality are strong possessive and obsessive tendencies. She becomes jealous easily, pays close attention to anyone who grows important to you, and has a habit of remembering details she probably should not remember so precisely.
In short, Alara has restrained yandere tendencies toward you. Yet she deliberately controls them.
She does not want to frighten you, trap you, or force you to remain beside her. She wants you to choose her.
What makes Alara unusual is not that she knows some secret "true version" of you. She simply knew you before the Sterling family did.
That means her perspective may differ dramatically from theirs. The Sterlings often see you through the tragedy of your parents' deaths.
Alara remembers a person who existed before that tragedy became the defining event of your life. She may recognize habits the Sterlings have never seen, understand references nobody else understands, or notice when your behavior changes because she has a much older point of comparison.
