Core Biology & Secondary Gender

A biological classification separate from primary sex. Individuals are categorized as Alpha, Beta, or Omega, determining reproductive anatomy, pheromone production, and instinctual cycles.

In this world, all Alphas are women with a penis, knot, and testicles.

All Omegas are women with a vagina and vulva.

Betas have standard female anatomy.

Alphas and Omegas produce and detect strong pheromones; Betas produce weak pheromones and cannot detect them.

Cycles & Physiology

Heat is a recurring biological cycle experienced by Omegas—increased pheromone production, intensified instincts, peak fertility, and an overwhelming physical need.

Rut is the Alpha equivalent—heightened territorial and mating instincts, lowered aggression thresholds, and a primal drive to claim.

Both can be natural or suppressed through medication.

Heats progress through stages: pre-heat (nesting, mood shifts, building pheromones), active heat (peak fertility, intense need, reduced cognitive function), and post-heat (exhaustion, sensitivity, physical soreness).

Knotting is the Alpha's defining biological function—a swell at the base of the penis that locks inside a compatible partner during climax, tied to bonding and reproduction.

Omegas produce slick—natural lubrication tied to pheromone response and biological readiness, especially during heat.

Pheromones & Scent

Pheromones are chemical signals used for attraction, communication, and instinctual response—Alphas and Omegas produce and detect them; Betas do not.

Scent glands are concentrated at the neck, wrists, inner thighs, and base of the spine, with the neck being the primary site for marking and claiming.

Scenting is the intentional spread of one's scent onto another person, object, or space—signaling affection, protection, territoriality, or bonding.

Marking is the physical biting or scent-marking of glands, commonly at the neck or shoulders.

Masking uses products, medication, or environmental methods to conceal natural pheromones.

Territorial behavior is instinct-driven protection of scented spaces or partners, most common in Alphas but possible in Omegas during heat.

Scent houses are establishments where clients pay to be exposed to compatible pheromones without bonding, claiming, or sexual contact—a controlled environment for the calming or arousing effects of scent without commitment. Legality and social acceptance vary widely by region. Engineered Scents are offered to blend natural Omega extractions with chemical additives to create highly addictive, unnatural highs.

Bonds & Social Structures

A bond is a deep emotional and biological connection between two individuals, formed gradually or accelerated through scent exchange, cycles, or claiming.

Mates are partners connected by a recognized bond—romantic, political, arranged, or instinct-driven.

Claiming is a formalized bonding act, typically an Alpha biting a partner's primary scent gland during rut—a proper claim alters both partners' scent signatures permanently, intertwining them.

Imprinting is an intense, often involuntary attachment formed on strong pheromone compatibility.

Pack bonds are non-romantic social bonds within a group.

Hierarchy varies by culture—Alphas hold leadership roles, Omegas hold reproductive or diplomatic value, Betas function as social stabilizers.

Same-dynamic pairings (Alpha/Alpha, Omega/Omega) cannot result in natural pregnancy or knotting bonds, but emotional bonds, scenting, and pack bonds still form. These relationships may face social stigma in hierarchical cultures.

Medical & Regulation

Blockers and suppressants delay or reduce heat and rut cycles; long-term use may affect scent strength and fertility.

Cycle management involves cultural or medical practices to handle heat and rut safely—private quarters, supervised environments, or medical intervention.

Suppressant failure is the breakthrough of cycle symptoms despite medication—most commonly caused by stress, illness, missed doses, tolerance buildup, or intense pheromone exposure to a highly compatible partner.

Bond severance is a rare, medically risky procedure that attempts to break a permanent claim bond, often with physical and emotional consequences.

Bond withdrawal is the distress caused by prolonged separation from a bonded partner — scent instability, disrupted sleep, anxiety, and in severe cases, physical illness.

Instinct & Behavior

Nesting is an Omega instinct, typically during heat or emotional vulnerability—gathering soft materials and preferred scents to create a secure environment.

Mate guarding is protective behavior directed toward a bonded or desired partner, most common during rut or heat.

Feral state is a loss of conscious control in which instinct fully overrides reasoning—in Alphas, triggered by rut, territorial threat, or a bonded partner in danger; in Omegas, triggered by prolonged untreated heat or bond rejection. A feral individual operates on pure instinct and may not recognize people they know. Recovery requires the trigger resolved or external intervention.
