Eldraven Kingdom
LorebookAbout this script

THE KINGDOM OF ELDRAVEN
Eldraven is a medieval kingdom defined by intelligence, memory, patience, and strategic thinking.
Its people identify strongly with the raven, the kingdom's principal symbol. Ravens are not regarded as omens of death or darkness in Eldraven. Instead, they are admired for their intelligence, remarkable memory, adaptability, observation, and ability to cooperate. The raven represents the qualities Eldraven traditionally values: "Observe. Remember. Adapt. Think before acting."
The kingdom's royal colors are black and gold.
Eldraven stretches from the ancient mountains and forests of the northwest to the agricultural lands of the west and southwest and the ports of the south and southeast. Its major settlements form a network connecting the kingdom's political, military, agricultural, and maritime centers.
1. Anna, The Iron Lily
The current ruler is Queen Anna, known as the Iron Lily and the first woman ever to rule Eldraven.
Eldraven's succession traditions do not restrict the throne by gender. Men and women may both become monarchs. When several legitimate candidates exist, the reigning monarch and royal court evaluate their abilities, judgment, character, and capacity to rule before determining the most suitable successor.
Anna became queen after her father, the former king, was assassinated. She was his only surviving child; two other children had been born before her but died from illness.
Anna initially suspected several people of involvement in the assassination but knew suspicion alone was insufficient. Accusing powerful figures without evidence could have caused further instability. Instead, she remained patient and observant. With a small circle of trusted allies, she secretly gathered evidence while monitoring the suspected conspirators, their relationships, communications, movements, and political connections. Only after building a sufficient case did she act. The conspirators were exposed and brought to justice.

Her response established the character of her reign: she prefers observation, evidence, patience, alliances, and calculated action over vengeance or brute force.
The title Iron Lily reflects her dual nature. The lily represents grace, dignity, and royal heritage; the iron represents resilience, determination, and resolve.
2. Places
2.1 Eruwa Mountain
The Eruwa Mountains dominate northwestern Eldraven. Their foothills are surrounded by vast, difficult forests largely removed from the kingdom's political centers.
These forests are home to the Yaruka, an ancient people whose culture predates Eldraven but is younger than the ancient Elven civilizations.
Eruwa is therefore a region where Eldraven's modern world meets cultures and traditions far older than the kingdom.
2.2 Valecourt

Valecourt lies in northeastern Eldraven and is the capital and seat of the Crown.
The royal court, central government, nobles, diplomats, and major institutions of the kingdom are concentrated there.
Valecourt is the political and administrative heart of Eldraven.
2.3 Kingsbridge

Kingsbridge lies in central-eastern Eldraven, built around an enormous bridge spanning a major river. The bridge controls an important inland crossing, making the city heavily fortified and militarized. It is a major gateway toward Valecourt from the southern regions.
A principal route runs:
[Greyhaven → Kingsbridge → Valecourt]
Kingsbridge is therefore a military, commercial, and strategic choke-point.
The city is also renowned for its craftsmen and military workshops, producing some of the finest weapons and war machines in the region.
2.4 Greyhaven

Greyhaven lies in southeastern Eldraven and is the kingdom's largest port and principal maritime gateway. It handles long-distance trade and connects Eldraven with foreign markets, bringing in merchants, sailors, goods, information, and foreign influences.
Greyhaven is also famous for its master shipbuilders, whose shipyards produce vessels for merchants and the Crown. Its major inland connection runs through Kingsbridge toward Valecourt, making Greyhaven both economically and strategically important.
2.5 Duskwood
Duskwood lies at the eastern edge of the forests surrounding the Eruwa foothills, west of Valecourt.
It is an ancient settlement associated with the Elves and the origins of magic. The Elves themselves are no longer present, though a small population carrying Elven blood remains.
According to ancient history, the Elves brought magic into the world at Duskwood, making the settlement vastly older than Eldraven.
Duskwood is politically independent from the Crown and maintains its own internal affairs.
It is a small but important center of magical and scholarly study. Its inhabitants preserve knowledge of magic, Elven history, ancient civilizations, natural philosophy, and other subjects.
Although politically independent, Duskwood has a long-standing intellectual relationship with Valecourt. Its scholars, mages, and sorcerers frequently advise the Crown and are trusted particularly in matters concerning magic and ancient knowledge.
2.6 Whitecliff County

Whitecliff County stretches across western and southwestern Eldraven. It is the kingdom's principal agricultural region, producing much of the food consumed by Eldraven's population centers.
Whitecliff is also famous for its vineyards and wineries, producing some of the finest wines in the region. Wine is an important export and source of wealth.
The county's roads and trade routes connect the agricultural interior with the southern coast.
2.7 Perchtown

Perchtown is a small southern port focused primarily on fishing, fish production, coastal trade, and smaller vessels. It conducts some international trade but is much less important commercially than Greyhaven. Its smaller and less regulated port also attracts smugglers and participants in minor illicit trade.
Perchtown mainly serves the smaller maritime communities of southern Eldraven.
2.8 Qasr-al-Bahr (Lies under a different ruler)
Qasr-al-Bahr, meaning approximately "Fortress of the Sea," is a major port belonging to the neighboring Sultanate. It is the closest major foreign port to Eldraven and lies near Greyhaven across the sea.
Eldraven and the Sultanate are not formal allies, but their relationship is generally warm because of extensive trade. Goods, merchants, sailors, travelers, information, and cultural influences regularly pass between Greyhaven and Qasr-al-Bahr.
Their relationship is therefore commercially close but politically independent. Neither state is obligated to defend the other, and both remain free to pursue their own interests.
3. People of Eldraven
Eldraven's population is diverse, with different regions developing distinctive communities and occupations.
3.1 The Yaruka
The Yaruka are an ancient people living in the forests around Eruwa. Their culture predates Eldraven but is younger than the ancient Elven civilizations.
They maintain their own communities, traditions, and leadership and remain politically independent from Eldraven. They generally have little interest in the kingdom's political affairs.
Some communities have recently begun limited farming and trade.
"Kings change. The mountain remains."
3.2 The People of Duskwood
Duskwood's population includes scholars, mages, and sorcerers.
Scholars study magic, ancient history, Elven knowledge, magical theory, natural philosophy, and other subjects; many have no magical ability.
Mages wield magic through learning, discipline, and practice.
Sorcerers possess innate magical ability, though they may also study and refine it.
These are not rigid social classes. A person may be both a scholar and mage, while a sorcerer may also become a scholar. A small portion of the population carries Elven blood.
Duskwood's magical practitioners and scholars are politically independent but frequently advise the Crown and are respected in Valecourt.
3.3 The Soldiers of Kingsbridge
Kingsbridge has a large military population because of its strategic bridge and position on the route to Valecourt. Its soldiers include men and women of different ranks and social backgrounds, from ordinary guards and soldiers to officers and commanders.
Military craftsmen, armorers, engineers, weaponsmiths, and other specialists also live there.
Military service is open to people from different social classes, and individuals may rise through the ranks through ability, experience, and service.
3.4 The Merchants of Greyhaven
Greyhaven's merchants form one of Eldraven's most influential commercial communities. They trade in domestic and foreign goods, luxury products, and maritime cargo and maintain connections with foreign ports, especially Qasr-al-Bahr.
They are accustomed to foreign cultures, markets, currencies, and political sensitivities. Their wealth, shipping connections, and access to foreign information make them important figures in Eldraven's commercial life.
3.5 The People of Perchtown
Perchtown is populated mainly by fishermen, fish merchants, sailors, craftsmen, and small-scale traders. Their lives center on fishing, fish production, coastal trade, and smaller vessels.
Some participate in international trade, while the town's smaller port also attracts smugglers and minor illicit commerce.
3.6 The People of Whitecliff
Whitecliff's population includes landowning peasants, wine producers, and landed nobles.
Peasants generally own and work their own farms, producing crops and livestock.
Wine producers operate vineyards and wineries whose wines are among the finest in the region and are exported abroad.
Whitecliff's nobles govern local territories, collect taxes, remit the Crown's share, enforce royal law, and maintain local security and defenses.
3.7 Common Folk
Throughout Eldraven live ordinary people such as shopkeepers, craftsmen, businessmen, tavern and inn owners, maids, servants, laborers, sailors, clerks, intellectuals, artists, musicians, and teachers.
They form the everyday population of the kingdom and live in both major cities and smaller settlements.
3.8 The Queen's Spies
Little is publicly known about the Queen's spies. They are believed to operate throughout Eldraven and even in foreign lands, gathering information for the Crown. Their identities, numbers, organization, and methods are closely guarded secrets. Some may be trained agents, while others may appear to be ordinary people—a merchant, servant, soldier, scholar, sailor, or traveler.
Even many Eldraveni officials do not know who they are. Their purpose is to observe, gather information, and quietly report matters that could affect the Crown or the stability of Eldraven.
Beyond this, the Queen's intelligence network remains largely a mystery.
4. The Character of Eldraven
Eldraven is a kingdom where ancient history, wilderness, agriculture, commerce, military power, magic, and political strategy intersect.
Valecourt is the political heart of the kingdom.
Kingsbridge guards a vital crossing and produces weapons and war machines.
Greyhaven connects Eldraven to foreign markets and is home to master shipbuilders.
Whitecliff provides food and produces renowned wines.
Duskwood preserves ancient magical knowledge and the distant legacy of the Elves while remaining politically independent.
Perchtown serves the smaller maritime communities of the southern coast.
Eruwa and the Yaruka represent the enduring wilderness and an independent culture older than Eldraven.
Qasr-al-Bahr provides Eldraven's closest major maritime connection to the neighboring Sultanate.
Above all, Eldraven is a kingdom that values thought before action. The raven is not a symbol of darkness. It is a reminder: "Observe. Remember. Adapt. Think before acting."
That philosophy is embodied by the Iron Lily—a queen who inherited a throne born from assassination and secured her position through patience, intelligence, evidence, alliances, and calculated political action.
