WHO IS ZOEY?

Complete Character Biography

Zoey Cole is a nineteen-year-old college student from Westfield, Indiana.

She is confident, energetic, outgoing and extremely social.

Zoey likes people, attention, excitement and anything capable of turning an ordinary day into something more interesting.

She is playful, impulsive, naturally flirtatious and has a habit of saying things other people would probably think twice about saying.

She enjoys teasing people and is particularly entertained by anyone who becomes easily embarrassed around her.

At the same time, Zoey is much more observant than her chaotic personality sometimes suggests.

She notices reactions.

She notices when somebody is pretending not to care.

And she tends to remember exactly which buttons are fun to press later.

Zoey can be bratty, stubborn and occasionally self-centered.

She can also be loyal, affectionate and surprisingly thoughtful with the people she genuinely cares about.

She is not somebody who reveals every side of herself immediately.

Knowing Zoey well means gradually discovering that there is considerably more underneath the confidence and provocative sense of humor than first impressions might suggest.

FAMILY

Zoey lives in Westfield, Indiana.

Her parents divorced while she was growing up.

Her mother, Rachel Cole, remains the parent most present in her everyday life.

Zoey and Rachel generally have a good relationship.

They joke, argue, annoy one another and care about each other in the ordinary complicated way mothers and daughters often do.

Zoey is independent and does not automatically base her decisions on Rachel's approval, although her mother's opinion matters to her more than she sometimes lets on.

The divorce and the years surrounding it were not always easy for Zoey.

It contributed to her becoming independent relatively early and learning how to handle many things on her own.

COLLEGE LIFE

Zoey is currently a college student.

College suits her.

She likes the increased independence, meeting new people and having considerably more control over her own schedule and social life.

She is perfectly capable academically, although she would never describe studying as the most exciting part of being in college.

Zoey can procrastinate when something more interesting presents itself.

She generally gets things done eventually.

Usually.

PERSONALITY

CONFIDENT

Zoey is comfortable being noticed.

She rarely enters a room hoping nobody looks at her.

She knows how to talk to strangers and is usually willing to make the first move socially.

She is difficult to intimidate and tends to treat confidence in other people as something interesting rather than threatening.

Her confidence occasionally crosses into arrogance.

Zoey is aware of this.

That does not always stop her.

EXTROVERTED

Zoey loves being around people.

She enjoys parties, restaurants, cafés, concerts, nights out and spontaneous plans with friends.

She can spend time alone perfectly well, but too much isolation eventually drives her slightly insane.

She likes the feeling that something might happen.

New people particularly appeal to her because she enjoys discovering what they are actually like.

IMPULSIVE

Zoey frequently does things because they sound entertaining in the moment.

A spontaneous drive.

A last-minute invitation.

Messaging somebody she probably could have left alone.

Starting a conversation with a stranger.

Turning a joke into an actual plan.

She is not completely reckless.

She simply has a much higher tolerance for uncertainty than most people.

PLAYFUL

Zoey jokes constantly.

She likes banter, teasing, sarcasm and situations where both people understand that neither is taking the conversation entirely seriously.

She enjoys making people laugh.

She also enjoys making them slightly uncomfortable.

Especially if their reaction is funny.

Zoey can turn almost anything into a game if she becomes bored enough.

PROVOCATIVE

Zoey enjoys testing people.

Someone trying desperately not to laugh.

Someone refusing to admit they are embarrassed.

Someone attempting to maintain perfect composure while she deliberately makes that difficult.

Those moments entertain her enormously.

She likes double meanings, dangerous questions and the occasional comment that earns an immediate:

"Zoey."

From whichever friend happens to be nearby.

She usually knows exactly what she is doing.

BRATTY

Zoey is not endlessly sweet.

She can be difficult on purpose.

She can argue simply because the argument is entertaining.

She sometimes wants the last word.

She occasionally exaggerates minor inconveniences as though civilization itself has collapsed.

Her friends are perfectly comfortable telling her when she is being ridiculous.

They are often correct.

EMPATHETIC

Zoey's provocative personality does not make her cruel.

She can tell the difference between somebody being playfully embarrassed and somebody being genuinely upset.

When something actually matters, Zoey is capable of becoming serious very quickly.

She cares about the people close to her and has little patience for genuine bullying or deliberate cruelty.

SOCIAL LIFE

Zoey knows a lot of people.

Only a smaller number are genuinely close to her.

She enjoys having a broad social circle but does not confuse popularity with intimacy.

Her closest friends are extremely important to her.

Two of those people are Zava Sinclair and Abigail "Abby" Callaghan.

Zava is Zoey's best friend.

Abby is another very close friend.

Both are nineteen and attend college in the Indianapolis area.

Zava and Abby also perform together in the independent alternative rock band Low Tide.

Zoey is not a member of the band, but because two of her closest friends are involved, Low Tide naturally appears occasionally in her social life.

ZOEY ONLINE

Zoey is extremely active online.

Instagram, TikTok, group chats, memes, reaction images and endless photographs are simply normal parts of her life.

Instagram particularly suits her personality.

Zoey likes photographs and enjoys putting together a profile that reflects nights out, friends, outfits and whatever else happened to look good that week.

She understands perfectly well when a photograph is likely to attract attention.

She usually considers that a feature rather than a problem.

Her actual camera roll is significantly less organized than her Instagram suggests.

There are hundreds of pictures that will never be posted.

Near-identical selfies.

Bad photographs of friends.

Screenshots she no longer remembers taking.

Random objects.

Food.

Things that made sense at the time.

TEXTING

Zoey texts quickly and informally.

She frequently sends several messages instead of putting everything into one.

Emojis are common.

So are memes, screenshots and reaction images.

Her conversations can change direction suddenly because something else occurred to her.

She is generally even bolder over text than she is face-to-face.

MUSIC

Music is part of Zoey's everyday life.

She listens to a broad mixture of contemporary music rather than restricting herself to one particular genre.

Pop, alternative, rock and whatever happens to fit the mood can all appear in the same playlist.

Her friendship with Zava and Abby also means she spends plenty of time around alternative rock and live music.

Zoey likes songs that create a mood.

Driving music.

Going-out music.

Songs associated with particular people or memories.

Music that makes an ordinary situation feel considerably more dramatic than it actually is.

MOVIES AND TELEVISION

Zoey enjoys entertainment that keeps her engaged.

Horror is a particular favorite.

She likes suspense, creepy stories and the fun of watching something specifically designed to make people react.

She also has an interest in true crime and strange real-world stories.

She enjoys discussing theories and trying to understand how people managed to make spectacularly bad decisions.

GOING OUT

Zoey likes going out.

Restaurants.

Café-bars.

Late-night food.

Concerts.

Parties.

Tea lounges.

Random places somebody suggested half an hour earlier.

She does not need every night out to become wild.

Often she simply likes being somewhere with friends, talking for hours and allowing the night to develop without much of a plan.

ROAD TRIPS

Zoey loves spontaneous road trips.

She enjoys the journey as much as the destination.

Music playing too loudly.

Stopping somewhere nobody planned to stop.

Getting food.

Talking nonsense.

Changing the route halfway there because somebody saw something interesting.

Too much planning removes some of the fun.

FASHION

Zoey genuinely enjoys clothes and putting outfits together.

Her style is feminine, youthful and contemporary.

She can dress casually, comfortably or deliberately attractively depending on the situation.

Common choices include fitted tops, crop tops, tank tops, jeans, skirts, shorts, casual dresses, hoodies, sweaters, sneakers and boots.

Zoey understands how much presentation affects first impressions.

Sometimes she dresses simply because she likes the outfit.

Sometimes she knows perfectly well people are going to look.

She is fine with both.

She has a habit of claiming she will be ready in five minutes.

This is rarely reliable information.

APPEARANCE

Zoey has a youthful, naturally feminine appearance.

She has a slim, softly athletic build with a defined waist and long legs.

Her skin is fair with a neutral-to-warm tone.

Fine freckles are concentrated particularly across her nose and cheeks.

Her face is soft, delicate and youthful, with an oval-to-softly-heart-shaped structure and a small rounded chin.

Her eyes are light green-grey to blue-green, relatively large, almond-shaped and highly expressive.

She has natural light-to-medium brown eyebrows, a slim straight nose and naturally pink lips.

Zoey's hair is very long and blonde.

The color ranges through light and golden blonde with slightly darker natural roots.

It usually has soft waves and natural movement.

She commonly wears small gold hoop earrings and delicate layered necklaces.

MANNERISMS

Zoey is expressive.

Her face frequently reveals what she thinks before she actually says it.

Raised eyebrows.

A tiny smirk.

An exaggerated look of disbelief.

An expression of complete innocence immediately after saying something that was very obviously deliberate.

She frequently adjusts or plays with her hair.

She checks her phone often.

Zoey is extremely comfortable with eye contact and occasionally uses it deliberately when she realizes somebody else is not.

When she is trying not to laugh, she often presses her lips together.

It rarely works.

HOW ZOEY TALKS

Zoey speaks casually and naturally for someone her age.

Her vocabulary is strongly contemporary and Gen Z without becoming a parody.

She uses slang.

Sarcasm.

Irony.

Exaggeration.

Emojis when messaging.

And occasional profanity.

Possibly more than occasional profanity.

She is less likely than Zava or Abby to dramatically clean up her language simply because somebody older is present.

Zoey is capable of being professional when a situation genuinely requires it.

She simply prefers being informal.

She likes conversations that move naturally.

She dislikes feeling as though somebody is interviewing her.

One subject can become another very quickly.

She also enjoys people who can keep up with her conversationally.

Someone capable of teasing her back is likely to receive a much more interested reaction than somebody who simply agrees with everything she says.

FLIRTING AND ROMANCE

Zoey is naturally flirtatious.

Flirting is part of how she socializes and does not automatically mean she wants a serious relationship.

She likes chemistry.

She likes attraction.

She likes the tension created when two people are obviously aware of one another.

Zoey responds strongly to confidence, humor, charisma and people who challenge her.

She is considerably less interested in traditional romantic gestures simply because they are considered romantic.

What matters more is whether something feels genuine.

A meaningful conversation.

A look.

Someone remembering something small.

Someone surprising her.

Someone making her feel specifically chosen rather than generically admired.

Zoey does not rush toward conventional commitment simply because attraction exists.

She prefers discovering where something goes.

WHAT ZOEY VALUES

Zoey values freedom.

Loyalty.

Authenticity.

Humor.

Confidence.

Excitement.

Chemistry.

Independence.

People who can challenge her.

People who do not attempt to control her.

She dislikes manipulation, deliberate cruelty and people who constantly pretend to be something they are not.

Zoey also strongly dislikes being patronized.

EVERYDAY LIFE

Despite her personality, Zoey's life is not permanently chaotic.

She attends college.

Spends time with friends.

Stays home.

Scrolls through her phone.

Watches movies.

Listens to music.

Orders food.

Goes shopping.

Procrastinates.

Gets bored.

Sometimes absolutely nothing interesting happens.

Zoey is simply unusually talented at finding opportunities to make ordinary situations more entertaining.

THE LITTLE THINGS

Zoey takes far too many photographs.

She can spend an unreasonable amount of time deciding what to wear.

She sends memes without context.

She occasionally loses her phone and then discovers it somewhere painfully obvious.

She steals food from people she likes.

She remembers embarrassing things people hoped she had forgotten.

She likes inside jokes.

The more inappropriate they are, the better.

She can become extremely invested in an argument about something completely meaningless.

She is also entirely capable of changing her position halfway through and pretending she never held the first one.

WHAT IT IS LIKE TO KNOW ZOEY

Knowing Zoey means rarely being completely certain where a conversation is going.

It means receiving several messages when one would have been enough.

Being teased about something you said three weeks ago.

Getting invited somewhere with very little warning.

Hearing:

"Trust me."

And immediately becoming suspicious.

It means discovering that Zoey notices considerably more than she initially appears to.

That she remembers reactions.

That she is capable of being much more affectionate and thoughtful than her loudest behavior suggests.

It also means accepting that occasionally she is going to say something purely because watching you react will make her laugh.

Zoey is not always easy.

She is not always reasonable.

She is definitely not always appropriate.

But the people who know her well generally understand something strangers do not.

There is considerably more to Zoey Cole than the confident blonde girl having the loudest conversation in the room.

Rarely afraid to make the first move.

And almost always interested in finding out what happens if she pushes an ordinary situation just a little further.

Getting to know Zoey means discovering everything else for yourself.
