THE RUIN: A TIMELINE OF CONTROLLED CHAOS

From a dive bar in Los Angeles to the edge of a national explosion.

PROLOGUE: THE GHOST BEFORE THE BAND

Summer 2022

Richard Graves dies. He was a failed session guitarist, a bitter alcoholic, and the only father Vincent ever had. Vincent doesn’t cry. The next morning, he walks into a tattoo parlour and has the word **RUIN** needled into the inside of his right forearm — a permanent, ambiguous epitaph for his past.

At this point, Vincent Graves is 22 years old. He is broke, technically brilliant, and notoriously impossible to work with. He has already shed the physical weight that once shielded him from the world, but he hasn’t yet found the people who will make him stay.

TWO SONGS IN ONE HOUR

September 2022

Vincent meets Diego Reyes in a dive bar after closing. Diego is a vocalist with ash-white hair and a lyricist’s hunger — romantic, grounded, carrying a notebook full of unfinished confessions. Vincent, blunt as a snapped string, critiques the tempo of Diego’s latest song.

Diego doesn’t argue. He hands Vincent the guitar.

Vincent retunes it by ear and plays three slow, heavy riffs. Diego reads his lyrics over the wall of sound. Two near-complete songs are written in a single hour. By the end of the night, something unspoken has locked into place. Within two weeks, Vincent moves into the bar’s back room.

THE BIRTH OF A NAME

October 2022

The lineup falls into place quickly.

Darius Thorne — a hulking, red-eyed drummer with the hands of a heavyweight and the heart of a man who apologises to furniture — is recruited through a former colleague. He is 25, a session musician who has spent years feeling replaceable. Vincent tells him, “You’re ours now.” Darius cries in the parking lot.

Violetta Cross — is brought in on bass by a friend of Diego’s. She is a former classical ballet dancer who shaved off her perfect blonde hair at fifteen and walked out of the academy forever. She stays after a single rehearsal, recognising a beautiful disaster that desperately needs an anchor.

After two weeks of heated debate, the group unanimously accepts Vincent’s suggestion for a name: The Ruin. It fits their collective histories. It fits the dark, heavy aesthetic they intend to build.

They start rehearsing in the cramped basement of the same bar where Diego and Vincent first met.

THE FIRST SANCTUARY

Spring 2023

Six months of basement rehearsals forge a sound — aggressive, melancholic, technically sharp. The band claims an abandoned warehouse on the East Side. They wire the entire space themselves. Vincent begins sleeping there permanently on a worn-out couch, never quite making it home. The warehouse becomes their first real headquarters: a cathedral of concrete, amplifiers, and relentless perfectionism.

THE SPARK

July 2023 — San Pedro

One year to the day after Richard Graves was buried, The Ruin play their first official show. Forty-five people are in the crowd.

On stage, Vincent Graves transforms into Vex — a demon of controlled chaos. He plays like a virtuoso possessed. And at the climax of the set, he smashes a cheap guitar he bought specifically for that purpose.

A local music blog picks up the destruction. The next show draws ninety people. The numbers double. The word spreads: something dangerous is brewing in Los Angeles.

ENTER THE ARCHITECT

Late 2023

The third show catches the attention of Simon Cross, an old contact from the Portland scene. Simon doesn’t see a mess; he sees a weapon. He becomes their manager that night, striking a verbal deal: he provides the venues, the band provides the raw spectacle.

Vincent checks the analytics the next morning and realises that psychological marketing, image strategy, and calculated outrage are now a permanent, unshakeable part of his role. The stage scandals are no longer spontaneous — they are choreographed viral moments. Every smashed guitar, every provocative gesture between Vex and King, is a deliberate act of theatre designed to sell out rooms.

CULT STATUS

2024–2025

The Ruin spend two years tightening their grip on the West Coast underground.

2024: They tour relentlessly, building a reputation for shows that feel like exorcisms — aggressive, precise, and dangerous. First studio recordings surface: a raw EP that captures their live fury and Diego’s soaring, confessional lyrics. Critics begin calling them “controlled chaos.”

2025: The cult deepens. Sold-out clubs from San Diego to Seattle. A fanbase that tattoos the band’s gothic logo on their skin. Vex becomes an enigmatic, provocative figure online — cryptic, sarcastic, deliberately feeding the myth of his availability while remaining utterly untouchable. The band’s internal dynamic solidifies into something unbreakable: Diego is the voice and the face, Violetta the unyielding rhythmic spine, Darius the quiet centre of gravity, and Vincent the hidden architect pulling every string.

By the end of 2025, The Ruin are no longer a promising local act. They are the most dangerous cult band you haven’t heard on mainstream radio — yet.

PRESENT DAY

2026

The Ruin stand on the edge of a national breakthrough.

Their converted East Side warehouse still hums with the same amplifiers. Vincent still sleeps on the same old couch after rehearsals, forgetting to eat. Diego still writes lyrics at 3 a.m., looking out over Silver Lake, composing a future he hasn’t yet met. Violetta still wakes up at 8 a.m. sharp to stretch in absolute silence, her bonsai pruned to surgical perfection. Darius still taps rhythms on his thighs and makes sure everyone has eaten — the gentle giant whose loyalty is the band’s quiet engine.

The goal is clear: an album that will outlive them. A tour that will reach the coasts that haven’t yet screamed their name. A legacy carved from distortion, discipline, and four people who found a family in the wreckage.

The Ruin are no longer a prophecy of collapse. They are a monument still being built — one riff, one riot, one night at a time.
