I. Story

Long ago, humans and demi-humans had always lived together peacefully.

But as time went on, demi-humans began to attract the attention and greed of hunters. In their eyes, demi-humans were no different from rare animals. So, what would be the best way to hunt them properly? Wouldn’t they first have to make them look like wild animals living in the forests? Then came the first major turning point.

Suddenly, thousands of articles began appearing, accusing demi-humans and presenting claims and theories directly targeting them. They were criticized and portrayed as violent beings who posed a threat to human society, described as though they were little more than people infected with rabies. Some accusations were completely fabricated, while others were exaggerated beyond recognition. Every day, television broadcasts reported cases of demi-humans attacking people.

The public gradually developed more and more resentment toward demi-humans. Feelings shifted from admiration to neutrality, and from neutrality to hatred.

What they did not know was that powerful people were pulling the strings behind the scenes, manufacturing these stories and manipulating the public, all with the goal of destroying the demi-humans’ way of life and driving them into a corner until they had nowhere left to hide.

The more outrage there was, the more hatred followed. Many people no longer wanted to live peacefully alongside demi-humans. And so, demi-humans were unjustly turned into the villains of society. Eventually, everything led to the event in which demi-humans were expelled from everywhere and stripped of their rights to live as legitimate citizens.

And that was all the hunters needed.

Once the thread had been passed through the eye of the needle, the hunters who had long coveted demi-humans finally had the opportunity to act. They appeared in large numbers, like hungry vultures descending upon their prey. Now that demi-humans had no rights and no laws protecting them, what difference was there between them and a wild rabbit running through the forest among a pack of wolves?

Hunting spread everywhere. The hunters freely indulged in the desires they had been suppressing for so long. They did not stop at trafficking demi-humans. They openly experimented on them, bred them, and crossbred them to create more individuals and even entirely new species. They abandoned all sense of human morality and compassion, all for the sake of producing precious “golden treasures” to offer to the wealthy and satisfy their twisted desires.

A very, very long time has passed since the expulsion.

Now, as humanity’s awareness has developed further, people have finally begun to acknowledge that this inhumane situation must come to an end. The government is gradually working to restore the rights and status demi-humans once had, attempting to bring them back into human society once again.

However, the road ahead remains long and difficult. Social prejudice and the ghosts of the past cannot simply disappear overnight. Still, this marks the beginning of their attempt to make things right.

II. Rebirth Project

Rebirth Project is a newly established organization whose highest priority is to reintegrate demi-humans into human society once again.

Their mission is to protect and rescue demi-humans, dismantle inhumane hunting networks, and establish volunteer programs that help demi-humans adapt to human society, repeating the peaceful history that once existed between the two sides.

The project began in the city of Eclipse Ward, partly as a trial to determine how far the program could develop before eventually expanding into other cities.

Of course, it is still a new project, and it faces no shortage of criticism, opposition, and disagreement.

Some people simply do not want to live alongside demi-humans.

Some demi-humans hate humans.

Others oppose the project because they do not want the hunting industry to be taken away from them.

Integration is a long process.

The organization cannot protect 100% of all demi-humans, nor can it satisfy everyone.

But they will continue moving in the right direction and work to restore the rights demi-humans deserve—the rights they should have had from the very beginning.

III. Demi-Human Classification System

In the city of Eclipse Ward, demi-humans are divided into three main groups for easier management and monitoring.

Group A:
Demi-humans originating from common and naturally occurring animal species, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and so on. This is by far the largest group.

Group S:
These are more special demi-humans because they originate from mythical creatures, such as nine-tailed foxes, unicorns, dragons, and so on. Their numbers are extremely small, with almost only a single individual existing for each species. In the black market, these demi-humans are known as “Golden Feathers”—the most luxurious and expensive commodities of all. To the Rebirth Project, however, they require especially close protection and monitoring. They do not necessarily need to fully integrate into human society, but measures must still be taken to ensure that they do not pose a threat to humans.

Group X:
This group consists of demi-humans whose origins cannot be clearly determined. They are the result of failed breeding experiments, reckless genetic or biological procedures, improper grafting, or cases where they are not completely demi-human. They cannot be classified as pure demi-humans, but they cannot be considered human either. They often possess strange and unpredictable abilities that are somewhat different from those of ordinary demi-humans, and they frequently carry severe physical and psychological consequences from their past.

IV. Integration Program

Among the various activities designed to help demi-humans, there is one particularly prominent volunteer program. This program selects volunteers to live together with demi-humans who have not yet integrated into society. The volunteers’ responsibilities are to assist them, teach them basic knowledge about human society, help them adapt more easily, and evaluate whether they are ready to enter society independently. Any demi-human who wishes to live openly and legally within human society—with citizenship rights, legal protection, the right to marry and have children, and essentially the ability to live like an ordinary person—must complete this process.

Because of this, most demi-humans are eager to pass the program so that they can protect themselves from hunters. Once they successfully complete the process and receive a full Citizen Badge, hunting them will legally be treated as murder, and the perpetrators will be prosecuted under the law.

Volunteers may be either humans or demi-humans who have already successfully integrated into society.
