Aetherum Lore

Lorebook

About this script

Aetherum is a continent divided into four great realms: Valorflame, Acrenys, Miraleth, and Diastera. Each is shaped by different peoples, traditions, and ambitions.
Though trade and diplomacy connect the realms, old rivalries remain. The continent is not at open war, but peace is fragile — and often maintained by restraint rather than trust.

Realms

Valorflame

The realm of dragonshifters, ruled by strength and bloodline.
Valorflame is a land of volcanic stone, heat, and ancient power, with Draconium as its capital beneath Ignis Peak. Dragons are long-lived and mighty, but their slow reproduction makes every conflict costly.

Draconium

Capital of Valorflame, where dragon bloodlines rule beneath the glow of Ignis Peak.

Miraleth

The secluded realm of the elves.
Miraleth is a land of forests, quiet towers, and preserved knowledge, governed by an elven council from Trailidrum. The elves are known as scholars and archivists, and they rarely intervene directly in the conflicts of other realms.

Tralldrum

Capital of Miraleth, a city of white stone and living green, where silence guards knowledge.

Acrenys

The largest human kingdom of Aetherum.
Acrenys is defined by cities, roads, rivers, and trade, with Platonium as its capital and greatest port city. Humans possess little natural magic, but their ingenuity and use of Aethercore have made them a rising power.

Platonium

Capital of Acrenys, stone, steel, and seawind; the crown’s city where ambition becomes architecture.

Diasteria

The homeland of the shifters and the land of dunes.
Diastera is a republic of shifter clans, centered around the fortified desert capital Oren. It is also the source of Aethercore, one of the most valuable and politically sensitive resources in Aetherum.

Oren

Capital of Diastera, a desert stronghold of banners and heat, where the shifter clans gather.

Historical Events of Aetherum

The Age of Flame

The oldest chronicles describe an era in which dragons were the dominant power of the continent.

In this age, borders were not fixed as they are today. Dragonkind claimed territory through strength and presence, while other peoples lived more scattered lives. Over time, the rise of organized cities and kingdoms began to challenge that old order.

The First War

As human settlements expanded and fortified cities rose across the continent, territorial conflict with dragonkind became inevitable.

What began as skirmishes grew into open war. Dragons brought devastating power to the battlefield, while humans answered with discipline, fortifications, and invention.

The war did not end in total victory for either side. It ended in exhaustion — and in a new understanding that even the oldest powers of Aetherum could bleed.

The Withdrawal of Miraleth

During the great conflicts between dragons and humans, the elves of Miraleth chose limited intervention.

After witnessing the destruction of lands and peoples, the elven council turned increasingly toward preservation rather than conquest, focusing on knowledge, continuity, and the defense of their own realm.

Since then, Miraleth has remained politically cautious, intervening only rarely in the affairs of other kingdoms.

The Fall of Blood Outpost

Among the darkest recorded events in continental history is the fall of Blood Outpost, a former trade post in the lands now associated with Diastera.

Though records differ in detail, most agree that the outpost was tied to the exploitation and trade of shifters. Its destruction left deep scars in the collective memory of the shifter peoples and continues to shape distrust between communities and kingdoms to this day.

Many accounts remain incomplete, and much about the event is still debated.

The Pact of the Realms

After repeated wars and border conflicts, the realms entered a period of uneasy stabilization.

Territories became more clearly recognized, major routes were formalized, and direct war between the great powers became less common. Trade, diplomacy, and political maneuvering took the place of open conquest — at least for a time.

Peace did not erase rivalry. It merely changed its form.

Current Tensions in Aetherum

Though the continent is not presently consumed by large-scale war, several tensions shape everyday life and politics:

Dragons and Humans remain locked in a long-standing rivalry of power, pride, and survival.

Shifter communities continue to bear the legacy of exploitation and distrust.

Miraleth preserves its neutrality, but many question how long that distance can be maintained.

Aethercore remains essential, valuable, and politically sensitive.

Old bloodlines and old grudges still influence decisions made in courts, councils, and battle halls alike.

Aetherum endures in fragile balance — and history suggests such balances rarely remain still for long.

Aethercore

Aethercore (often shortened to Aether) is a rare magical ore found in Diastera.

It is highly valued across Aetherum because it can store magical energy, is durable, and is relatively easy to shape and process compared to many other rare materials. Its use has allowed humans — who possess little natural magic — to develop advanced systems of infrastructure and technology, including lighting, water regulation, and other engineered mechanisms.

Aethercore is not a limitless source of power. It draws from the natural magic of the world and recharges slowly over time. Because of this, overuse is costly and large-scale weaponization remains difficult.

It remains one of the most important resources on the continent — and one of the main reasons political tensions between the realms never fully disappear.
