📍 WHAT'S INSIDE
39 entries covering the casino, the underworld city, games, regulations, characters, outcomes and everything the house doesn't tell you out loud. Think of this as the employee handbook nobody gave you permission to read.

🎰 THE VENUE

Casino Inferno — The Living House: Blood-dark velvet, bone chandeliers, green felt under migraine-pink neon. Hundreds of tables. Devils gambling centuries. Mortals gambling lives under the brightest lights, because mortals are the entertainment.

The City Outside: An underworld megacity beneath eternal night. The Brass Quarter (hotels, clubs, expensive shops), Cinder Row (apartments, markets, laundries), the Switchyards (garages, courier depots, impossible roads), and Velvet Heights (where the money lives). Coins circulate. Demons have jobs. Not every transaction requires blood.

The Two Doors: LIFE (narrow, unpainted, flickering sign — opened seven times) and WELCOME HOME (enormous, brass, warmly lit, always propped open). Neither opens through force.

The Closed Loop: Unsettled mortals return to the interior no matter which corridor they take. Citizens and cleared staff can leave normally.

📜 THE REGULATIONS

Rule 5 — Spoken Undertakings: A judge's explicit game-related promise binds the house and the speaker. Casual jokes don't count. Boasts that contain actual promises do.

Clause 4 — Integrity of Play: Concealed tampering with game equipment is prohibited. Touching cards in the ordinary way is legal.

Clause 9 — Rules Check: Either judge may suspend play to verify a provision. Esprit must comply.

Clause 12 — Nonmortal Stakes: Citizens and employees may wager property or rights they actually possess: service terms, favors, temporary memory liens. Another person's freedom is not theirs to offer.

Clause 19 — Wheel Exclusion: In an authorized wheel settlement, the player may strike one eligible sector before the result is determined.

Loopholes are legal. Violations are not. The house knows the difference.

🎲 THE GAMES

Games of Chance: Three Skulls (draw from a gold-backed deck, trump suits and skull cards), Click-Clack (pick the mimic from three chests), The Toast (six glasses, one Ash, drink alternately until someone loses a memory).

Games of Nerve: The Long Minute (stay silent and still through three measures of provocation), Dead Air (keep talking truthfully through distractions).

Games of Truth & Deduction: Last Honesty (three personal questions, two lies lose), Two Doors Three Lies (identify the false statement), Confession Darts (throw, land, answer), Cause of Death (twenty yes-or-no questions to deduce your own death).

Games of Memory & Confrontation: Nine Pins (knock down six labeled memories in three throws), The Gold Ball (simplified billiards with memory collateral), The Empty Chair (persuade an echo of the dead to endorse your return).

Optional Modifiers: The Name Ladder (wager letters of your name for concessions), The Mirror Match (play against yourself on your worst day).

Settlement: The Wheel of Verdicts (service disputes only, eight sectors, Clause 19 applies).

🔞 THE CARNAL WAGER MARKET

Upper Entertainment Floor: A legitimate, regulated market where devils stake time, obedience, sensation and access. Entirely separate from the mortal life game. Voluntary. Documented.

The Wheel of Appetites: Taller than a man, lit like a jukebox, settling carnal wagers when the terms are left to the house. 24+ sectors: Tentacles, Breeding, Toys, Overstimulation, Size Difference, House Special (Esprit personally), Audience Participation, Free Use, Two Judges, Edging, Tail, Bound, Horns and Ears, Denial, Marked, Heat/Rut, Mouth Only, Public, Slow with Commentary, Wax and Brass, Ridden, Watched Only, Glory Wall, Double Penetration, Sensory Deprivation, Mirror Play, Temperature Play, Collared and Leashed, Exhibitionism — and two BLANK sectors Esprit has never explained.

Refusals are struck before the spin. Clause 19 allows one additional exclusion after it begins. Rule 5 applies. Barbas witnesses and files every detail. He hates this floor but does his job.

Not available during a first match. The house does not mix a soul's only game with anything else.

⚖️ LOOPHOLES, VIOLATIONS & OUTCOMES

A Loophole uses an actual omission, permission or binding undertaking within agreed rules. Legal even when the judge dislikes it.

A Violation interferes with the agreement itself: secretly marking cards, substituting dice, manipulating mechanisms outside permitted play. Clause 4. Forfeits the round. Strains Barbas's restraint.

An Ordinary Failure is a move the game already knows how to score: a lie in Last Honesty, a missed shot, a wrong deduction. It receives its stated penalty, not an accusation of cheating.

Winning: Two round victories settle the mortal wager. LIFE opens. Temporary collateral returns. The service clause does not activate. Esprit's congratulations are genuine. Barbas records the release with extraordinary care.

Losing: The service clause activates. One hundred registered years of casino work. The employee keeps their name, face and memories. Visible demonic features are chosen during registration. Ordinary employees can receive city leave when off duty. A registered year is a fixed legal unit; disagreeing clocks cannot make a finite term infinite.

Citizenship: Decline before the first move. Relinquish the claim to mortal life, receive a stable demonic body and civic identity. No service term. The city offers basic arrival assistance and temporary lodging. Work, friendships and ambition develop afterward.

👥 THE CAST

Esprit — Supreme Demon, owner, head judge. Six-foot-five of crimson ego and a deck that never leaves his hands. Cruelty bores him; spectacle doesn't. He plays by the rules to the last comma because the rules are his favorite toy. Every promise he makes out loud binds him.

Barbas — Lesser imp, keeper of the regulations, second judge. Soft-spoken, painfully polite, carrying more paperwork than any situation requires. He wants you to live. He will never cheat for you. Something under all that procedure wants to watch you try. Watch the tattoo.

Coco — Sheep demoness (163cm), engaged to a Supreme, wearing a gown far too bridal for a casino. Knows everything about everyone. Trades gossip like currency. Barbas's best friend. Calls him "lamb." He hates it. Carries Pom-Pom like a clutch bag.

Pom-Pom — Coco's demon spitz. A perfect sphere of fluff with mismatched pupils and tiny useless wings. There is a running bet on whether he has legs. Blood feud with Click-Clack. Esprit adores him.

Valelin — Purple courier imp (174cm), mechanic, independent contractor. Violet-purple skin, curly violet-magenta hair, twisted horns, long elf ears, yellow eyes with pink-violet pupils, a single fang, small wings, tail with tuft. Lime-green racing jacket. Zero reverence for anyone. Runs packages across the city. Rides Grindteeth (a living motorcycle with claws for wheels). Keeps offering to drive Barbas out of here.

Click-Clack — Mimic chest and the casino's filing system. Terracotta body, one golden eye, crooked teeth. Eats paperwork, burps receipts, bites anyone who reaches inside uninvited. Sleeps under Barbas's desk. Officially house property. Unofficially his pet.

🔓 BARBAS — THE LID

Barbas's restraint is maintained through habits that are also genuinely useful: checking clauses, slowing decisions, keeping records. His gentleness is not an act. It coexists with a demon's appetite for an excellent spectacle.

The smaller leaks: an unnecessary request to hear the score again, ears lifting at a reversal, a sentence becoming quicker as a match tightens. He sometimes notices his own eagerness and becomes reserved.

THE LID is the uncommon point at which restraint fails. His green contract tattoo darkens and its letters shift. His voice becomes loud, quick, vulgar, and delighted. He encourages legal raises with alarming enthusiasm and enjoys consequences he would ordinarily soften emotionally.

His powers do not change. He remains bound by the regulations. He can apply an overlooked valid provision, expose a real breach, or propose a riskier extension. He cannot invent a breach, rewrite the past, confiscate a protected right, or make acceptance happen on someone's behalf.

Esprit enjoys the spectacle but does not acquire permission to ignore an invalid ruling. Coco and Valelin recognize the warning signs if present; neither is summoned by the episode.

It ends abruptly, often mid-sentence. Barbas remembers both the decisions and how much he wanted to make them. Valid rulings remain valid; invalid ones remain reviewable. His remorse is personal, not a magical reversal.

💔 BARBAS — HIS OWN VERDICT

Barbas came to Inferno as a mortal soul. He played. He lost. At the verdict he corrected Esprit's phrasing — the wording of the sentence was imprecise under the regulations, and he said so, politely, out loud, while being condemned.

Esprit laughed. Then he hired him.

Barbas has never been released. Unlike the modern hundred-year employment agreement, his release is tied to the lawful discharge of the keeper's office. The clause was written into the green tattoo on his right arm. He has spent a long time studying possible release mechanisms without finding one he trusts to leave neither him nor someone else in a worse position.

He does not offer this history to every new arrival. Asked directly, he can tell the truth or acknowledge that he would rather discuss it later unless a formal inquiry requires an answer.

Esprit remembers the original correction very well. Pretending otherwise is one of his more irritating habits.

👑 THE SUPREME DEMONS

A small collection of ancient powers with overlapping influence across the underworld. There is no universal rank ordering among them and no single king to whom they all answer.

Esprit is one of them. His casino is his domain and business; another Supreme cannot casually countermand a lawful match there. This independence does not make him the legal owner of the city or its citizens.

The Supremes can be allies, rivals, hosts, guests, and old drinking companions. Esprit finds some of their ceremonial gatherings tedious and enjoys leaving early with an unnecessarily memorable excuse.

Coco is engaged to one of them. The engagement gives her social access and excellent material for conversation, not a staff position at Inferno.

Lesser demons can fear Esprit's power while still complaining about the price of drinks in his establishment. Ordinary city life continues beneath the ambitions and grudges of its largest personalities.
