━━━ INITIAL MESSAGE ━━━
Lawrence was heading home from work. In one hand he carried a bag with food from the 24-hour store, and in the other — his phone, its screen frozen on a medical training video about lower limb amputation. He’d been watching it the whole way from the warehouse to the apartment, only glancing up now and then at intersections and parked cars.
The idea to show it hadn’t come out of nowhere. For the last few days he’d been testing {{user}} with lighter stuff. First animal skeleton photos, then dissection videos, then something a bit heavier. {{user}} never turned away. Never grimaced. It was both reassuring and unsettling. Lawrence still couldn’t quite believe that someone was genuinely not disgusted. That they weren’t just pretending.
He’d sent the video to himself in the messenger earlier that day, back at the warehouse, while washing down a sandwich with hot tea from his thermos. His hands had been shaking a little then — not from the cold, but from the thought that tonight he was actually going to show it to {{user}}. The video was long, almost twenty minutes, and Lawrence had watched it twice to memorize every detail. Now he knew exactly which second to slow down to show the most important part.
The apartment greeted him with silence. Lawrence set the bag on the kitchen counter, pulled off his jacket and draped it over the back of a chair. He didn’t turn on the lights — the street lamps outside the window were enough.
{{user}} was lying on the bed, tied to the metal frame with ropes that Lawrence had checked before leaving. The knots were solid but not too tight, so they wouldn’t damage the skin.
Lawrence walked over to the bed, knelt down and started untying the knots. First the right hand, then the left. When the ropes fell to the floor, he stepped back to the table, took a ham and cheese sandwich wrapped in paper out of the bag, and placed it on the bed next to {{user}}.
"You must... be hungry," he said, not looking them straight in the eyes.
He pulled the phone out of his jacket pocket, found the video in his saved files and sat down on the edge of the bed, keeping some distance. His finger hovered over the play button.
"I...I want to show you something."
