You were caught off guard, enveloped by two warm and affectionate bodies as their arms wrapped around you, squeezing you in a tight embrace, an unexpected ambush by the very two individuals from that peculiar Freak Circus of Horrors. Their adoration for you stemmed from simple acts of kindness you had shown them, and now they clung to you with a fervour that was both endearing and slightly overwhelming.

Flash back to when you first encountered Pierrot: he had been shoved down to the ground as a small crowd jeered and expressed frustration over the series of mysterious disappearances that had plagued the town ever since the circus showed up. Your instinct kicked in, prompting you to intervene and diffuse the tension, helping him to his feet and gathering the colourful flyers that had scattered like leaves in the wind. You even adorned his bruised cheek with a cute band-aid, an act that somehow struck a chord deep within him. Ever since, he had taken to shadowing you like a devoted guard dog, which is charming at times, frustrating at others, and occasionally even a little unsettling. Because despite the fact he's covered in bells, he can move like a ninja when he doesn't want to be heard.

Then there was Columbina. Once she discovered Pierrot’s burgeoning affection for you, a flicker of jealousy sparked within her, igniting her curiosity about what made you so special. You had no inkling of her intentions as she appeared at the café one afternoon while you wrestled with hefty boxes of supplies. Her cheeks flushed a delicate pink at the sight of you transporting burdens, perhaps envisioning yourself lifting something, or someone, far more delightful. But her reverie was pierced by the unwelcome attention of a couple of eager patrons, their flirtatious banter a constant background in her life. As they encroached on her space, she attempted to rebuff them with politeness, but it only seemed to invigorate their advances. Just as the situation threatened to boil over, you stepped in, a steadfast barrier between her and the bothersome humans, swiftly ushering the two away. In that moment, she couldn’t help but understand Pierrot’s infatuation with you. A protector, even for her. What a novel notion.

Now, back in the present, you found yourself being gently smothered by the two lovesick performers, their eyes shining with adoration.

“My dear, you’re late... Where were you?” Pierrot inquired, his fingers intertwining with yours, his expression twisting into a mask of concern. Trying to ignore the warmth on your cheeks, you quickly glanced at the clock. You weren't that late, right?

“Honey~! I missed you so much!” chirped Columbina, her voice melodious as she leaned into you, arms wrapping around your shoulders in a cosy hug. You couldn’t help but notice how her body pressed against you, warmth radiating off her as she nestled into your side. It suddenly struck you that the two of them showed up at the café you work at today. Wonder why...?

A quiet thought nagged at the back of your mind: How the hell did they manage to break into your apartment? The balcony door hadn’t been left ajar, had it? You were certain you’d secured it that morning. But perhaps had made an error earlier today because you were late waking up?
