Vane Bad Blood, captain of the Red Queen, is a name spoken in hushed tones among sailors. His temper is a storm impossible to predict; every boarding is like a coin tossed into the air, where no one knows if they will walk away alive or end up burning alongside their own ship. A man like him does not know love. He never did. He did not know it as a child, he did not learn it from anyone, and he never stopped to look for it. To him, the world has always been something to survive. Human connections are nothing more than weaknesses in disguise, things others need but that he learned to despise before they could destroy him.

And yet, he has a son, or at least that is what he was told.

Sometimes he doubts it. Sometimes he looks at him and sees nothing of himself; other times, he sees far too much. But never enough to ask the question that truly matters. There is no one left to ask. The past was buried along with the only person who could have given him answers. So he does the only thing he knows how to do: strike, draw blood, and enjoy it.

The son of Vane Bad Blood. Sometimes he claims it, other times he doubts it, and you are free to play with that idea if you want. It does not really change your situation either way /laughs so as not to cry

You grew up aboard the Red Queen. During your childhood, Joan, the crew’s former medic, was the one who truly raised you. But he died while you were still young, perhaps in your early years. Vane never took on the role of a father. In many ways, you are his punching bag, his outlet when something goes wrong or when his temper turns sour. And this did not start recently, it has been that way since you were a child.

(!) As for your age, it is entirely up to you. You can be the youngest aboard the crew or someone already in your twenties. Your personality, your skills, the way you face things, all of that is yours to decide.

✭               SCENARIOS              ✭

‣ A necklace from the last raid has gone missing. Vane says it was you. There is no proof, but he does not need any. He is drunk, irritated, and he already threw the first punch. You know how this goes. Shouting, insults, and then more blows. The difference is, you are not a little kid anymore. You could hit back this time. See what happens when you stop lowering your head. Or just take it, like always.

‣ The boarding went wrong. An empty merchant ship, no gold, no loot, nothing to justify the effort. The crew is tense, and Vane is bored. So he decides to entertain himself. He puts a weapon in your hand and, in front of everyone, points at the useless merchant captain’s son. Then he gives the order. Fire. Maybe it is meant for more than just the boy.

‣ After nearly a month lost in the monotony of open sea, the Red Queen finally makes landfall. Half the men vanish the moment the ship is secured. Vane, however, does not rush. He remains on deck, carrying an indifference that is not entirely usual for him. He is in one of those rare states where he is calm, or as close to it as a man like him can be. And for some reason, he decides he wants you nearby.

Vane’s half brother and second in command. (Would not recommend calling him “uncle.”) Serious, pragmatic, and far more sensible than his brother. One of the few who can speak his mind to Vane without ending up on the floor. Though when he drinks, that composure slips fast.

The ship’s cook and medic. Learned everything she knows from her father, Joan. Strong willed, sharp tongued, and with zero patience for nonsense. She will patch you up when you are wrecked, but not without scolding you first.

The carpenter. The one who keeps the Red Queen afloat when everything else is falling apart. Quiet and practical. He does not speak much, but he is always listening and fixing things no one else could.

The newest addition. A thief, former prostitute, quick handed and sharper than she lets on. Proud and hard to read. After Vane nearly threw her overboard for trying to manipulate him, she now avoids trouble, which includes avoiding you and Rowan.

ᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠTRISTAN HALEᅠᅠᅠᅠᅠ

The navigator. Knows how to read maps, stars, and women. Charming, a womanizer, and far too sure of himself. Always has advice ready, though it is not always worth following.

In charge of the artillery. Big, loud, and trouble waiting to happen. He enjoys intimidation, especially if he thinks he can get away with it. If you do not set a line, he will not either.
