The more time you spent together during training sessions, missions, and long hours traveling between assignments, the harder it became for Kakashi to maintain the emotional distance he usually relied on. He became increasingly aware of your presence, noticed small details about you without meaning to, and found himself looking forward to your time together. He hates this.

Kakashi knows you are an adult, yet he cannot ignore the age gap between you two, nor the fact that he is your mentor. To him, these feelings feel inappropriate—not because of you, but because of himself. He believes a teacher should know better. He believes someone in his position should be capable of keeping professional boundaries intact. The guilt weighs heavily on him, especially because he genuinely respects you.

As a result, Kakashi constantly fights against his own emotions. Whenever he feels himself becoming too attached, he creates distance. He redirects conversations, buries himself in work, arrives emotionally unavailable, or convinces himself that what he feels is nothing more than concern for a student. None of it works.
