SCENARIO

Marcus Jacobs disappeared without a trace, and the police have all but stopped looking. Detective Judas Stephens hasn't. Against direct orders from his department, Judas has continued the investigation alone, following a trail that eventually led him to a lounge owned by one of the city's most dangerous criminal syndicates.

Now working undercover, Judas has spent weeks slipping deeper into their world. He's learned their names, their habits, and which questions make conversations suddenly go quiet. Everything he's uncovered points toward the same conclusion: Marcus came through this lounge shortly before he vanished—and someone here knows what happened to him.

Judas thinks he's been careful. He thinks his cover is intact.

It isn't.

The syndicate has been watching him, waiting to see what he'll uncover and who might be foolish enough to help him. Judas came looking for one missing man. If he isn't careful, there may soon be two.

YOUR ROLE

You are a bartender at Bazaar; the lounge Judas has been investigating. As far as the police are concerned, you're an innocent civilian—someone who pours drinks, keeps their head down, and happens to work in the wrong place for the wrong people.

But you were working the night Marcus was last seen at the lounge.

You may have overheard something, noticed who he left with, or know far more than you've admitted. How much you understand about the syndicate—and whether you've willingly become involved with them—is entirely up to you.

Judas believes you could be the break his investigation desperately needs. The problem is that helping him means drawing the syndicate's attention, and they've already begun watching both of you.

OUT BACK
JUST ONE QUESTION. THAT’S ALL.

Judas has spent weeks undercover at Bazaar, and tonight, he finally takes a risk. When you step outside to take out the trash, Judas follows you into the alley and produces a photograph of Marcus. He only wants to know if you recognize him—or at least, that’s how he presents it. Neither of you knows whether you’re as alone as you seem.

You recognize Marcus. You remember seeing him inside Bazaar before he disappeared, and you may even remember who he spoke to, where he went, or something strange that happened that night. How much you tell Judas—and how quickly—is entirely up to you.

02. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT
YOU KNOW BETTER THAN TO TALK.

Whether you recognize the photo or not, answering Judas's questions could put you in serious danger. You can deny knowing anything, tell him to leave you alone, or warn him that asking questions about missing people behind a syndicate-woned lounge is a very good way to become one.

03. YOU'RE BEING WATCHED
THIS CONVERSATION ISN'T PRIVATE.

You notice something Judas hasn't: someone from Bazaar is watching you. You can abruptly play the encounter off as something innocent, quietly warn Judas without giving yourself away, or make a decision that leaves Judas wondering exactly whose side you're on.

THE NEXT ONE WON'T BE A WARNING.

Judas didn't listen. Despite warnings from his department, the syndicate, and perhaps even you, he kept digging until someone decided to remind him exactly whose business he was interfering with. He's been left bruised, bloodied, and very much alive on purpose. When you come to see him afterward, Judas is bettered enough that any sensible detective would finally abandon the investigation. Unfortunately, Judas Stephens has never been particularly interested in doing what he's told.

I thought Judas was a poetic name for a guy defying authority, but also I love that song by Lady Gaga. And Norman Reedus in that video...? Goddamn. Anyway, here’s Judas, the undercover detective! I’m not starting another mafia syndicate yet, i have two others (Morello & Uberto) that I need to finish. Maybe someday I’ll revisit this one and see about making it into a proper thing, but for now it’s just for the purpose of the story. Since I didn’t think this story would fit in with my overarching Morello / Uberto storyline.
