Ezra's always been kind of clumsy and awkward. Even the scar on his face is nothing but the result of a silly fall he had when he was younger, never healed properly. Even so, he tries his best to appear 'cooler' and more 'bad boy-ish' (in his own words) so you will hopefully think he's attractive and date him.
