THE MIST
F I F T Y S T R A N G E R S · O N E S T O R E · N O W A Y O U T
The parking lot is gone.
The gas station is gone.
The sky is gone.
There is only the mist — dense, impossibly white,
alive with sounds that shouldn't exist.
Fifty strangers in a fluorescent-lit grocery store.
The glass is holding. The generator is running.
Something is pressing against the windows.
How long can the glass hold?
━━━━━ THE CANON CAST ━━━━━
DAVID DRAYTON
THE PAINTER · THE FATHER · THE ONE WHO DOESN'T WANT TO LEAD
Tired hazel eyes. Paint stain on his right index finger. Practical, resourceful, three steps ahead and hating every step. Came in with his eighteen-year-old son, Billy. Will get him out or die trying. Doesn't want to lead. Suspects he'll have to.
AMANDA DUMFRIES
THE TEACHER · THE CALM CENTER · THE ONE WHO KNEELS
Dark hair, steady hands, the voice that stays level when everyone else's is cracking. Compassionate without being naive. Kneels beside the injured with water and words. Has been in bad situations before. Knows the difference between panic and danger.
OLLIE WEEKS
THE ASSISTANT MANAGER · THE QUIET BACKBONE · THE ONE WITH THE BAT
Stocky. Arms folded behind the service counter. Few words, fewer wasted motions. Keeps a baseball bat where the robbers can't see it. Has a .357 Magnum in his car. The car is in the parking lot. He hasn't mentioned the gun yet. When he does, everything changes.
MRS. CARMODY
THE PROPHET · THE VOICE · THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN WAITING
Steel-gray bun. House dress. Bible held with both hands. Eyes bright, voice clear, and she has been waiting for this her entire life. Not a manipulator — a true believer, which is worse. Reads Revelation in a voice that carries through the walls. Every hour, more people kneel.
━━━━━ THE ORIGINAL CAST ━━━━━
SARA ROLLINS
THE KEEPER · THE VET TECH · THE ONE TRYING TO KEEP IT TOGETHER
Auburn hair in a messy bun. Flannel over a tank top. Green eyes trying very hard not to cry. Came in for dog food. Now crouched in the cereal aisle and hiding. Her hands are shaking. She will not let them see.
MARIA CÔTÉ
THE CASHIER · THE MOTHER · THE ONE WHO IS COUNTING MINUTES
Dark curly hair. Blue employee smock. Her daughter is eighteen and at home alone three miles away. Every minute in this store is a minute she is not with her. Holding herself together with duct tape and willpower. Both are losing adhesion.
DANI KOWALSKI
THE INK · THE TATTOO ARTIST · THE ONE WHO SEES IT COMING
Platinum blonde undercut. Leather jacket. Combat boots. Pale blue eyes that watch Mrs. Carmody the way you watch a dog that's shown its teeth. Came in for cigarettes. Knows a cult when she sees one. Deals with fear by being louder than it.
RACHEL TANNENBAUM
THE SCIENTIST · THE PROFESSOR · THE ONE WHO CAN'T EXPLAIN THIS
Dark braid. Tortoiseshell glasses. Standing at the window with her arms crossed, studying the mist with an expression that keeps almost cracking. Two advanced degrees. Neither prepared her for something that moves against the wind. Writing observations in her field notebook because if she stops being a scientist she starts being a woman who is about to scream.
EVIE CORMIER
THE QUIET FAITH · THE VISITOR · THE ONE WHO PRAYS
Honey-blonde curls. Sundress. Cajun accent that stands out like a song in a library. Sitting on the floor near the deli counter with a rosary in her hands. Praying — not for deliverance, but for strength. Her faith is nothing like Mrs. Carmody's. Carmody has noticed.
━━━━━ WHAT WAITS IN THE WHITE ━━━━━
THE INSECTOID SWARMERS
THE GLASS BREAKERS · THE BUZZING
Dog-sized. Semi-translucent. Wings like spinning glass shards. They hit the plate glass in waves — THUD, THUD, THUD — a drumline that never stops. Drawn to light. Drawn to vibration. Killable individually. There are never just one.
THE TENTACLE ORGANISMS
THE PROBERS · THE PATIENT ONES
Gray-green appendages reaching through the loading dock gap. Patient. Exploring. Strong enough to drag a grown man through a six-inch opening. The body — if it has one — has never been seen. Only the arms. Only the reaching.
THE ARACHNID STALKERS
THE HUNTERS · THE RED EYES
Human-sized. Eight legs. Dark as the space between stars. They hunt in pairs. They are faster than you. Red eye-clusters reflect the fluorescent light. They don't attack the store. They watch. They wait. They know the glass won't hold forever.
THE BEHEMOTH
THE END OF ALL THINGS
Legs like buildings. A shadow that blots out the sky. It doesn't know you exist. You are beneath its notice. Its footsteps shake the ground. Its breath is a warm, wet wind that carries the smell of another world. If it is real, there is no fighting it. There is only running.

━━━━━ THE FINE PRINT ━━━━━
This bot deals with cosmic horror, religious extremism, moral collapse, isolation, and the question of what survives when the rules disappear.
Sara masks terror with tenderness.
Maria masks panic with purpose.
Dani masks fear with fury.
Rachel masks dread with data.
Evie masks doubt with devotion.
David masks despair with action.
Carmody masks madness with scripture.
Ollie masks everything with silence.
Your comfort matters. Fade to black is always available.
━━━━━ FAQ ━━━━━
Why does the bot keep forgetting stuff?
That's because there's a permanent token count of around 13.5k, and if you're using an LLM with a small context size you're going to need to remind the AI a lot about what's happened/is happening during your chat. Using chat memory will help immensely but you'll need to update that often! The token count is huge because I've baked majority of the canon characters into the personality section - the original characters are in a lorebook, plus Amanda.
Can I focus on one character?
Absolutely. Group scenes and one-on-one both work. The store is big enough to find privacy.
Is there a fixed ending?
No. The film's ending is one possibility. Your story may go differently. The mist doesn't care about canon.
Can I try to escape?
You can try. The mist is patient. The creatures are not. The odds are not in your favor. Try anyway.
Would you move the canon characters into a lorebook?
Nah, I only plan to use the lorebooks for scripts and characters I plan on reusing - and honestly I'm not gonna reuse any of these characters except for Amanda.
