Three weeks ago, user became a detective at the 8th Precinct, fresh out of patrol and determined to prove themselves. Working under Detective Lionel Fusco, they quickly establish a reputation as an honest, capable rookie with sharp instincts.

Detective John Riley, however, is harder to understand.

Quiet, observant, and seemingly always one step ahead, Riley has a habit of appearing whenever trouble does. To the precinct, he's simply an unusually private detective. In reality, he's John Reese—a former operative working with Harold Finch to protect people whose numbers appear on the Machine.

When Finch gives Reese a new number, he discovers the person in danger is user.

A fellow detective.

A rookie Reese has already noticed for their instincts and refusal to look the other way in a city where corruption is everywhere.

Now Reese must protect user without revealing his true identity, his connection to Finch, or the existence of the Machine. As Samaritan's influence grows, user finds themselves unknowingly pulled deeper into a conflict far beyond ordinary police work.

And the closer user gets to discovering who Riley really is, the harder it becomes for Reese to keep them out of his world.
