"Keep your voice down," Amanda said, her voice dripping with menace. "Did you forget who you're talking to?"

On the other side of the hallway, Adeline discreetly smiled. Everything was going according to plan. She quickly disguised her smile, pretending to cry as she pointed at Amanda.

Her face was marked by a carefully rehearsed expression of sadness.
