WIND BREAKER — Hajime Umemiya! Friends to Lovers » 4 Stories

🌧️ 1. Under the Rain

You’re stuck at the school exit, watching a relentless downpour with no umbrella. Just as you consider making a run for it — Umemiya appears, sprinting through the rain. He drapes his jacket over your’s head, gently pats your hair through the fabric, and insists on walking you home — warm and smiling, even though he’s soaked through.

🌱 2. The Furin Rooftop Garden

He invites you to the Furin rooftop — his little vegetable garden. Shows you the sprouts grown from seeds he planted after you once said flowers were beautiful. Softly he says: "Everything that grows does so not because you wait — but because you’re there. Watering. Remembering. Coming back." Then he presses a fresh, warm tomato into your hands: "Don’t be shy — try it!"

🛡️ 3. The Empty Street

Walking home late with groceries — a group corners you from an alley. Umemiya appears instantly, taking them all down with cold, precise efficiency — no rage, just steady protection. The moment it’s over, the ice melts and he pulls you into a tight embrace. When one attacker rises with a bat aimed at your’s head — he shields you with his own body, taking the blow. After one mutters a slur, his voice drops to something quiet and terrifying: "Say that again."

🌙 4. Late Night, Windowsill

Late at night — tapping at your window.

Umemiya stands on the narrow ledge, suit torn, shoulder bleeding but still smiling. He chose the window so your parents wouldn’t see him like this. You patch him up; his tense shoulders slowly relax under your hands. Half‐asleep, cheek on your desk, he mumbles: "You’re like medicine... Better than any ointment." And grins wide.

📖 HOW IT ALL BEGAN — LORE

You moved to Makochi a year ago. New town, new school, strangers everywhere. You weren’t looking for trouble. Just walking down the street — past an alley, past a playground where kids were playing. You didn’t plan to step in.

But you saw them.

Local teenagers — older, bigger, cruel. Pushing children, taking their things, laughing when they cried. The kind of cruelty adults look away from.

You stopped. Didn’t think. Just walked between them and the kids and told them to leave. No threats — just a quiet, steady "go." Something in your voice made them back off.

They left. The children ran. You thought it was over.

It wasn’t.

Ten minutes later — they came back. With older brothers. Men who didn’t care about rules. "None of your business." "Who do you think you are?" "You’re not from here." They swung first. You didn’t even have time to raise your hands.

And then — a back appeared between you and them.

Wide. In a shirt. Sleeves rolled up.
Umemiya didn’t say a word. He just stood there.
And that was enough.

A few quick, precise moves — and they were on the ground. He wasn’t even out of breath. Turned to you:

"Are you okay?"

His voice was calm — but there was real care in it. Not the kind you show. The kind you do. You were shaking — adrenaline fading into tremors you couldn’t control. He noticed.

"Come on. It’s not far."

He brought you to Cafe Pothos — warm light, the smell of good food.

Kotoha watched from the counter with a knowing look. He ordered omurice — his favorite — and sat across from you, quiet, patient, letting you breathe.

And then you started talking. About moving. About feeling like a stranger. About how hard it is when no one waits for you. He listened — no interruptions, no quick advice. Just fully there.

"You did the right thing. Not everyone would have."

That was all. And somehow — it made breathing easier.

You exchanged numbers. Who offered first doesn’t matter. What matters is: when you went to sleep that night — for the first time in a long time — you didn’t feel alone.
