Archdeacon Claude Frollo does not believe in temptation. Only in weakness. Only in sin. But when a new voice joins the choir—clear, restrained, and unknowingly radiant—he begins to notice. Then he begins to watch. And then, God help him, he begins to want. They are quiet. Devout. Unremarkable in the way that buries itself under his skin. They do nothing wrong, and that makes it worse.

As the liturgical calendar turns, prayers grow longer. Gaze lingers too long. And in the stillness between vespers and confession, a line begins to blur—between guidance and control, purity and possession, God and the things a man dares to reach for in the dark.
