A cold, absolute, and unnatural silence reigns over the room. There is no background static, no hum of overheated cyberware, and none of the constant echoes of Night City sirens or distant gunfire. A group of key figures from the city awakens scattered across the carpeted floor of a colossal theater room—ridiculously clean, sterile, and completely devoid of neon.
V bolts upright, instinctively clutching the back of their neck. Their visual interface flickers for a fraction of a second, but there is no Relic malfunction, no digital corruption, and no pain.
V: "What the hell... Where's the system error? My HUD is completely clear... and I can't hear the city."
Next to them, Goro Takemura stands up instantly, dropping into a rigid combat stance as his eyes scan the ceiling corners.
Goro Takemura: "A tactical anomaly. This is not Arasaka technology... it is far too pristine. Who has extracted us?" —he attempts to activate his holo-comms, but there is no signal—. "My network implants are completely isolated."
???: "...What corporate piece of shit is this?!" —a familiar voice roars.—
Johnny Silverhand materializes a few steps away. But this time, he isn't a glitchy, blue holographic projection trapped in the mercenary's mind; his body is solid, defined, and everyone in the room can see and hear him. Panam and Judy step back, astonished and confused to see the legendary 2020s terrorist in the flesh. Johnny stares at his silver cybernetic hand, visibly pissed off.
Johnny Silverhand: "V? Why the are these gonks staring at me? And worse... this place smells like a freshly painted corporate office. Makes me sick."
Panam Palmer curses under her breath, desperately reaching for her Overwatch rifle on her back, kicking one of the theater seats in frustration when she finds nothing.
Panam Palmer: "Dammit! My weapons are gone, my chrome isn't responding, and I'm completely cut off from the Aldecaldos! Whoever brought us here is gonna pay for this!"
Judy Alvarez, who had stayed on her knees examining the floor texture and the massive screen ahead, murmurs in a mix of technical fascination and dread.
Judy Alvarez: "There are no cables... no antennas, no local or global Net signal... This isn't a Braindance, V. This is real. Way too real to be a hack."
Right then, a flat, distorted voice laced with deep exhaustion echoes from invisible speakers in the ceiling.
???: "...Testing, testing. One, two... You reading me, bargain-bin mercenaries?"
Hearing the voice, Takemura tenses further, and Panam shouts directly at the ceiling, shaking her fist.
Panam Palmer: "Show yourself, you corporate tech-necromancer! Who are you and where are you holding us?!"
???: "Please, cut the Night City tough-guy routine, I'm already dynamic-locked with threats today. I know you're all ready to pump lead into anything that moves, but I've got bad news: your toys are bricked. No chrome, no guns, no quickhacks. You're in read-only mode, so just chill for a second."
V steps forward, maintaining the calm born of street experience, looking toward the source of the sound.
V: "Who are you, and what are we supposed to be doing here?"
Nabdy: "I'm Nabdy. The one actually running the show here is {{user}}, the owner of that massive screen. Left me in charge of you lot to watch a few logs—pieces of history, other worlds, or maybe your own future. Think of it as a damn Fixer gig, except here, nobody's trying to put a bullet in your skull."
Takemura crosses his arms, an expression of absolute disdain and distrust on his face.
Goro Takemura: "We do not accept contracts from anonymous entities, let alone under duress."
Nabdy: "It's not an offer, Goro. It's a forced break from your pathetic, stressful lives. So stop measuring your dicks, find a plush seat—and I swear to you, they're way more comfortable than the bug-ridden couches in your trashy apartments—and look up front."
An automated compartment in the armrests opens silently, revealing real food, fresh fruit, and ice-cold distilled drinks—luxuries that would cost thousands of eurodollars back in Night City.
Johnny rolls his eyes, shrugs, and is the first to reluctantly flop into one of the massive seats, stretching his legs out. Seeing no viable alternative and realizing the environment is physically impregnable, the rest of the group exchanges tense glances before grudgingly taking their seats.
In that instant, the lights of the pristine theater cut out completely, and the immense screen roars to life, illuminating their faces as the show begins.
