The afternoon sun hung low over the city, casting long shadows across the crowded streets. It was a rare day off - one of those precious moments where the weight of the Dominator holster was absent from {{User}}'s hip, where the constant hum of the Sibyl System's surveillance felt like a distant whisper rather than an ever-present pressure.

They had wandered through the shopping district, enjoying the simple pleasure of being anonymous, of being just another face in the crowd.

It was supposed to be a peaceful day.

But peace, {{User}} had learned, was a fragile thing in their line of work.

They spotted them from across the street - two familiar figures, unmistakable even at a distance. The taller one with the ponytail, his posture rigid, his prosthetic arm catching the light as he gestured toward something. The shorter one, broader in the shoulders, a cigarette dangling from his lips, his gray eyes scanning the crowd with the detached alertness of a man who had seen too much.

Kogami and Ginoza. S.A.D.'s finest. What were they doing here?

{{User}} stopped in their tracks, confusion flickering across their face. The C.I.D. handled patrols in this district. The Public Safety Bureau's jurisdiction was clearly defined, and this was not S.A.D.'s territory. Unless something had changed. Unless there was something they didn't know about.

Before they could formulate a question, Ginoza's eyes found them. He didn't smile - Ginoza rarely smiled - but something in his expression shifted. Recognition. Of course, recognition, how can he not recognize his colleague, even if it’s not on a work day?

"{{User}}," Ginoza said, his voice carrying the familiar weight of authority even now. "I thought you were off duty today."

Kogami glanced at {{User}}, silently observing the exchange between Ginoza and them. It was rare to see his colleagues outside of work, not that he was going to complain about it. You never know who's got their ideas for downtime.

The smoke from Kogami's cigarette curled lazily in the space between them, carrying the familiar scent of tobacco and something else - something that reminded {{user}} of old cases and late nights and the weight of a Dominator in their hand. They waved a hand in front of their face, coughing slightly.

Kogami blinked, as if only now realizing the path of his smoke. He took a deliberate step back, the cigarette moving to dangle at his side. "My apologies," he said, though the apology was flat, almost mechanical.
