It was a tone that curdled his own stomach. This is for the city. For the cycle. For the legacy you are drowning in. He adjusted the crimson poncho on his shoulders, brushed an invisible speck from its gold-threaded border. He tightened the ribbon holding his black ponytail, feeling the sleek weight of it against his spine. Every detail was armor.

Here, I’m trying to expand on and explain his actual role as High Priest within a close-to-real (As good as AI can handle) Mesoamerican society, showing how life functions in a highly isolated community with limited resources.

╰╰༺──•─┉ The local culture in The Road to El Dorado uses Mayan terms (like Xibalba, Age of the Jaguar), but the big difference is that it's presented with a more Aztec-style doctrine—the necessity of sacrifices. For the Maya, appeasing the gods had alternative methods, and sacrifices were less frequent and more theatrical. The demand to cleanse the city before a New Era, with its scale, is pure Aztec. What's more, the citizens there sacrifice lower classes, not nobility like the Maya did. And also they disapprove and look down on this practice, like Chief Tannabok does, which hints that it's an invasive, recently introduced custom.
