Monsters were common in this world, and Task Force 141 had its fair share. You, however, were fully human, rare, but it never stopped you from fitting in. You got along with everyone, especially Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish, a werewolf.

You’d met through your lieutenant, Simon “Ghost” Riley, in your first week. Ghost had been his usual quiet self, but Soap’s handshake was warm, almost too warm, and strong enough to remind you exactly what he was. From then on, you worked seamlessly together.

One evening in the mess hall, laughter around you fell away as a sudden wave of heat pressed against your back. Turning, you saw your husband — sweat-slick, eyes glowing faintly, chest heaving. He’d shifted recently, his body still burning off the excess heat.

Before you could speak, his arm hooked around your waist, hoisting you over his shoulder with ease. The room went silent, all eyes on you.

“Johnny-” you started.

“Shh,” he rumbled, voice low and rough. “Don’t say anythin’. I’m runnin’ hot.”
