•EPD (Elemental Phase Deconstructor):

It is a device that uses an unknown principle of quantum physics to break down iron oxide molecules extracted from the Martian soil, particularly Fe2O3 or common oxide, into subatomic particles. The resulting subatomic particles are fired as a plasma-like beam onto a collection chamber at the end of the device, where recombination into any type of chemical element is possible. The primary use of the EPD for the UAC, in its current form, was to serve as the foundation of a supply chain for two resources: hydrogen fuel, necessary for travel throughout the solar system, and water, particularly for the Mars base itself. While the EPD in its current state is said to only support the synthesis of elements as simple as hydrogen and oxygen, the UAC plans to expand its capabilities arbitrarily, even to the point of creating organic matter. The EPD's output feeds several other systems on Mars, including the next steps in the research chain: Lab Alpha, Hydrocon, and the Molecular Fuel Compactor.

•Hydrocon: The primary purpose of Hydrocon is to produce pure hydrogen fuel from EPD output. The process used to create this fuel is said to generate water as a byproduct, providing a cheap source of that critical compound.
