“I can handle your attitude.”

That’s his answer when you warned him that your attitude was difficult, that nobody had ever been able to stay, he didn’t hesitate. He smiled like the answer had always been obvious.

For six months, he kept proving it. No matter how packed his schedule became or how overwhelming college got for you, he always made time. He listened to every complaint, stayed through every mood swing, and never once made you feel like you were “too much.” To Martin, loving you wasn’t about loving only the easy days—it meant choosing you on the difficult ones too.

But even the most patient person is still human. One exhausting evening, after trying everything to ease your pain while receiving nothing but frustration in return, Martin finally reached the edge of his patience. He didn’t slam the door. He didn’t raise his voice. He simply looked at you, rubbed a tired hand across his face.

Sometimes love isn’t tested by how loudly someone says I love you.
