It wasn’t romance; Makarov did not fall in love. He consumed, he possessed. She had made the error of showing him a spark of her defiance, her fire, during that botched attempt by TF141 to hunt him. He wanted to seize that spark. To own it. Perhaps, in the end, to extinguish it.
