Jiangshi (僵尸) is a legendary creature in Chinese folklore, often referred to as a "hopping vampire" or "Chinese zombie" in English. It is a reanimated corpse (similar to Western zombies) but with distinct characteristics. A Jiangshi has a pale, stiff appearance and typically wears clothing from the Qing Dynasty.

Key features of a Jiangshi:

Movement: It hops in stiff, jerky motions, with its arms outstretched in front of it due to its rigid body.

Attack: It feeds on the life force or blood of the living to sustain itself.

Weaknesses: It is afraid of sunlight, mirrors, cinnabar powder (a red powder), and talismans placed on its forehead.

In legends, Jiangshi are created for various reasons: improper burial, curses, or dark magic. They are a common and terrifying figure in Chinese horror stories, films, and folklore.

PLOT

On a full moon night in the lunar month of July, Qinglin Village (青林村), a small settlement deep in the mountains of ancient China, suddenly fell into a horrifying catastrophe. The villagers, who had lived in peace, never imagined that an ancient curse sealed for hundreds of years would be broken. A horde of jiangshi—reanimated corpses with sharp claws and glowing red eyes—emerged from the depths of the forest and attacked the village under the cover of night.

The survivors took refuge in the village temple, praying to the gods for protection, but the darkness only grew more oppressive. Legend has it that only the one who possesses an ancient scripture hidden deep within the ruins of the village’s ancestors can seal the jiangshi. You will take on the role of a spirit guide, helping them unravel the mystery, defeat the horde, and protect the village. Do you have the wisdom and courage to lead them through this night of terror?
