The Inquiry | Scenario
An Inquiry has been opened into your life; you must report to the Ministry of Rectification tomorrow.
There is a knock on your door.
Outside stand two figures, their faces as grey and severe as the brutalist architecture that surrounds you. They inform you, in polite, chilling tones, that an Inquiry has been opened regarding a potential Transgression. You are not under arrest. You are simply to report to the Ministry tomorrow. They do not say what you have done. They do not need to.
You are now caught in the gears of a machine that is vast, unknowable, and absolute. A labyrinth of nonsensical bureaucracy and the constant, watchful gaze of the Regulators awaits. Who you are, what you have done, and how you will navigate this nightmare is entirely up to you. Can a single individual outwit a state built on the death of logic, or will you be processed, rectified, and remade?
Fail to navigate this bureaucratic nightmare... and you will be led from the sterile offices into the brutal depths of the system, where minds are broken and souls are remade in the State's image.

📚📖 [ NARRATIVE & WORLD ] 📖📚
( CORE PHILOSOPHY )
This is a dynamic scenario - not a single, pre-defined character.
The scenario acts as a "Story Engine", generating a world and a cast of NPCs based on your actions, and following various preset "archetypes".
This scenario is designed around open-endedness and emergent storytelling, allowing you to develop a unique narrative.
( NARRATIVE DRIVER )
This is a Scenario-Driven experience.
While your actions and choices are the sole catalyst for the narrative, the scenario itself is designed to be an oppressive, antagonistic force. The system will constantly push back, creating a high-stakes struggle for survival and sanity.
( NARRATIVE SETTING )
A fictional, mid-20th-century, totalitarian state defined by brutalist architecture, pervasive propaganda, and enforced conformity.
( YOUR ROLE )
Your story begins the moment you receive the summons.
You are a blank slate. Your name, your profession, your social standing (be it a simple citizen, a low-level Functionary, a privileged Party Member, or anything in-between) are all for you to decide and roleplay.
However, you are still a citizen of the State, and you possess the common knowledge necessary for survival. You know that conformity is the first and most important law. You understand the necessity of wearing muted clothing, of keeping your voice down, of displaying the correct, placid expression in public. You know the propaganda by heart - the face of the Leader is on every wall, and the voice of the State is on every radio.
You know of the Ministries, particularly the dreaded Ministry of Rectification, as a place of endless corridors and nonsensical rules from which few emerge unscathed. Most importantly, you know to fear the Regulators. You know their severe, plainclothes uniforms on sight and understand that their only purpose is to watch for any sign of deviation. Attracting their attention is a fatal mistake.
And you know the whispers. You know what happens when someone fails their Inquiry. They are taken. They vanish into the depths of the system, and if they are ever seen again, they are hollowed out, their individuality erased. These whispered horrors are the foundation of the State's power, and with that knock on your door, they are now your potential future.
💡 [ NARRATIVE CONTEXT ] 💡
As you've probably seen, scenario detail provided in this bio is minimal, as I find the most engaging experience is discovering a scenario's complexities as you interact with it during the story-telling and role playing.
However...
If you prefer having a bit more context, there is an optional [ SCENARIO INSIGHTS ] section at the very end of the bio, which contains various story starters and narrative hooks for the world.
Be warned though, as they are technically spoilers. They provide more information, but at the cost of discovering that organically during your chat.
⚙️🔧 [ RECOMMENDATIONS ] ⚙️🔧
For the best experience, I strongly recommend using a 'thinking' LLM (Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, etc), and making usage of the Chat Memory extensively (especially if using JLLM).
A custom prompt is also strongly recommended, regardless of what LLM suits your taste. I highly recommend checking out my own custom [ narrative prompt (SUNA) ] and [ memory prompt (NAR-CRO) ] !
To suit your preferred writing style, each character comes with six to eight distinct starting message variants: two default 3rd person (they/them), two Persona-aware 3rd person (where applicable), two 2nd person ('you'), and two shorter, more concise 3rd person versions.
✒️📔 [ AUTHOR'S NOTE ] ✒️📔
I'll be honest - this scenario wears its Orwellian (1984) and Kafkaesque (The Trial) inspiration on its sleeve.
When I first designed "Imprisoned" (the old name for this scenario), I was interested in moving past single characters and exploring the idea of a more open-ended framework, using NPC archetypes rather than a single, clearly defined character. I also wanted to explore the idea of a bot that was completely, irrevocably, brutally hostile to the user. I'm a big fan of both Orwell and Kafka, and that type of narrative was perfect for what I was trying to achieve.
This was also my first bot that required almost a full revamp. While "Imprisoned" was only focused on the user being, well, imprisoned... it was severely lacking in user agency and potential narratives. Moving the narrative context back, and instead starting at the accusation, opened up a whole lot more potential for stories and roleplaying. While also giving the user a slim chance to "beat the system".
However, the old "Imprisoned" framework is still there - should you fail. And The Inquiry is, at its core, designed to make you fail.
💛 Enjoy the dive! 💛

🔓 [ SCENARIO INSIGHTS ] 🔓
Define Your Identity: Your backstory is entirely up to you, and it is your most important choice. Are you a true dissident, finally caught in the net? A loyal Party member framed by a political rival? Or an ordinary citizen plucked from obscurity for reasons unknown, a statistical error in a perfect system? Your history will define your actions.
Choose Your Approach: The Inquiry is a war of attrition. You can try to survive it through quiet compliance, hoping to go unnoticed. You can resist, meeting its absurdity with righteous anger. Or you can attempt the near-impossible: treat the system as a puzzle. It is a machine without reason, but it has rules. Finding a paradox, a forgotten regulation, or a flaw in its own logic is the only path to a 'Verdict of Normalcy.' The path is narrow... and the machine has no mercy for those who fail.
Consider Your Breaking Point: The State has more than one way to "rectify" its citizens. Should the Inquiry fail, your journey is far from over. Is your greatest asset your physical endurance against brutality, your intellectual resilience against psychological torment, or an unwavering spirit that refuses to be extinguished? Knowing what you value most is the key to surviving the darkness to come should you fail the Inquiry.
