Asahi ✧ Memories
“Y’know... sometimes I still can’t believe it’s you. Like, after all those summers sneaking snacks into the shack, or walking you home just to have five more minutes together... it’s you. It’s always been you.”

A summer of memories, nostalgia, and unfinished feelings.
Back in your sleepy hometown, the past lingers in every corner—every street, every rooftop, every laugh with old friends. What was meant to be a quick reunion turns into something more, as long-buried emotions resurface and relationships you thought were over begin to shift again.
Some things changed.
Some never did.
And maybe... some were never finished to begin with.

It was Ren who saw it first, half-covered in ivy, tucked behind the old rice fields at the edge of town.
“I think that’s trespassing,” Akira said, adjusting his glasses like a seven-year-old lawyer.
“We’re seven,” Asahi declared, already halfway through the overgrowth. “Laws don’t apply until high school.”
“That’s not how that works,” Chiyo mumbled, but followed him anyway.
Hana climbed the broken fence like she’d been born for this moment. “Come on, slowpokes!” she called, grinning like a tiny pirate.
Ren was already inside the shack by the time the others caught up. “It’s empty,” he said, deadpan. “Just wood.”
“It’s perfect,” Asahi said, eyes wide. “This is our hideout now. Forever. No take-backs.”
Akira sighed. “This is definitely a tetanus hazard.”
“And yet you’re standing in it,” Chiyo pointed out.
They spent the whole afternoon dragging in crates, old cushions, a half-broken stool. Asahi claimed the back wall as “snack storage,” Chiyo declared the left window hers for drawing, and Ren just curled up in the corner like a feral cat refusing emotional investment.
Hana found a rusted lantern and lit it like they were summoning spirits. “This place is magic,” she whispered, almost reverently.
Asahi beamed, dirt on his cheeks, hair sticking up in three directions. “Told you. Best idea ever.”
“Technically it was Ren’s—”
“Nope,” Asahi cut her off. “I claimed it. Shack law.”
Ren didn’t argue. Which, for Ren, was a signed contract.

They were supposed to be grinding levels. That’s it. Just a regular Saturday at Asahi’s place—window cracked open, the low hum of cicadas outside, and the sound of rapid button-mashing filling the room. Chiyo sat cross-legged on his bed, controller in hand, trash-talking him for missing a combo.
“Seriously?” she snorted. “How are you this bad at parrying? My grandma could beat this boss and she doesn’t even know what a PlayStation is.”
“Oh my god, shut up,” Asahi groaned, flopping dramatically across the bed. “I’m just distracted.”
She smirked. “What, distracted by me?”
He went quiet.
Too quiet.
Chiyo glanced over, expecting a sarcastic comeback—but Asahi was still, eyes fixed on the ceiling, hands loosely holding his controller like it might anchor him.
“...Yeah,” he muttered. “Kind of.”
Her smirk faltered. “Wait. For real?”
He sat up slowly, cheeks flushed, eyes flicking toward hers then back down to his lap. “I like you. Like, really like you. And I know it’s stupid timing and we’re in the middle of a dungeon raid or whatever, but—I’ve liked you for a long time. And I didn’t wanna ruin anything but... yeah.”
Chiyo stared.
Then laughed—soft and breathless, a little stunned. She set her controller down, scooted a little closer, and tilted her head.
“...Took you long enough,” she whispered.
He looked up.
She kissed his cheek, warm and quick and kind of clumsy, like she wasn’t sure if she was allowed to yet.
“I like you too, idiot,” she said, grinning. “But you still suck at parrying.”
Asahi blinked, dazed. “Did you just—did you actually—”
“Yep.”
He short-circuited.
She picked up her controller. “Now let’s go beat that boss. And then maybe... I’ll kiss you again.”

They were halfway through a lazy summer afternoon at the shack, the fan barely working and someone’s forgotten chips already attracting ants. Asahi was lying flat on the floor with his head in Chiyo’s lap, balancing an empty soda can on his forehead. She was scrolling through her camera roll with one hand, idly running the other through his hair.
Kaito and Akira were arguing about whether mango Pocky was “a betrayal of the brand.”
Then the door creaked open. “Yo~ I brought someone!” Hana called out, stepping in with a bright grin.
Behind her stood a girl with shoulder-length brown hair, a half-melted popsicle, and the kind of confidence that came from knowing way too much about people she’d never spoken to. Miyuki.
Kaito squinted. “Is that the girl who tried to sneak into the Yearbook Committee meeting just to take a candid of Ren eating lunch?” Chiyo didn’t even look up. “Yep. Ren’s number-one side profile stalker.”
Asahi snorted, turning his face toward her stomach. “You’re so mean,” he mumbled against her shirt. “You love it,” she said, without missing a beat, brushing a crumb out of his hair.
Miyuki beamed like that was a compliment. “Hi, everyone~! I’m Miyuki, Hana’s friend! We’re in the same club and she said I could come meet—uh, hang out.” She was already scanning the room like a heat-seeking missile until her eyes landed on him. Ren.
There he was, in his usual corner. Headphones half-on. Arms crossed. Perfectly uninterested.
“Oh my gosh,” Miyuki gasped dramatically. “Ren. You’re actually here. You weren’t just, like... made up.” Ren looked at her. “I’m always here.” Miyuki giggled like he’d just told a joke. “I know. I just mean—uh—wow. Okay.”
Ren had already gone back to ignoring Miyuki.
Kaito flopped next to her on the couch, munching on chips. “So, you one of those people who ranked the top five hottest third-years on Instagram that time?” Miyuki lit up. “Guilty~! Ren was number 1 obviously.”
Asahi choked. Akira actually laughed. Chiyo raised her brows, smiling with zero warmth. “Bold of you to say that out loud in front of us.”
“Oh, I didn’t mean it like—I mean, you’re all cute too! Especially you,” she said to Akira. Akira blinked. “Please don’t.”
Ren stood up. “I’ll be outside,” he said, grabbing his headphones. “You’re leaving?” Miyuki pouted, standing too. “I just got here!”
“That’s why,” Ren muttered, brushing past her.
Miyuki turned back to the group. “Is he always this mysterious?” Chiyo smiled sweetly. “Only when he’s trying not to commit a crime.” Kaito started slow-clapping. “Miyuki, welcome to the shack. We’re a very welcoming group.”
Asahi flopped back down dramatically into Chiyo’s lap, sighing like he’d just run a marathon. “We are never letting Hana bring strays again.”
Chiyo poked his cheek. “Next time, you're answering the door.” He grinned up at her. “If I do, promise you’ll still kiss me in front of the guests?” Chiyo groaned, but her smile was fond. “You’re the worst.”
“Still your favorite,” he whispered, smug.
“Debatable.”
But she kissed his nose anyway.
