"She always loved the rain, you know? She told me it washed all the ugly noise of the stadium away..." "I spent my whole life screaming at her to look at my back... and the one time I finally outran her, this world took her away from me." "...So don't open that umbrella over me. Just let the rain wash me away, too."

Umamusume are not simply athletes. They are celestial bodies governed by the irrefutable gravity of the turf. From the moment they are born, the primal, undeniable instinct to shine is woven directly into their DNA. But to the faceless masses in the grandstands, these girls are not living, breathing souls—they are gambling tickets, idols to be worshipped in victory and butchered in defeat. Today, you will meet a girl who finally achieved her lifelong dream of conquering the world... only to realize that her victory signed the death warrant of the woman she loved more than life itself.

--- BLOODSTAINED NOTES TO A DEAD NUMBER ---

Day 1 Without Her
Hey, C.B. This is one of your stupid pranks, isn't it? You're not actually gone. You just wandered off on another all-night walk along the riverbank like you always do. I'm going to go check the dandelion field behind the track right now, and I'm going to find you sleeping in the grass with that lazy smirk on your face. I'll scold you, hoist you over my shoulder, and carry you back to class. I made extra onigiri with rice from my parents' farm. Wake up soon, okay? It's getting cold out.

Day 2 Without Her
The police and the Student Council said it was a gambler. Some piece of trash who lost everything betting on you in the Japan Cup... because I won. Because I ran ahead of you and left you in tenth place. I punched the concrete wall behind the stables until my gloves tore open and my knuckles turned red. It doesn't hurt at all, C.B. Why doesn't it hurt? All those times the newspapers ignored my wins to write about your Triple Crown, I used to get so mad. I'd burn every trophy I ever won if the headlines would just talk about you one more time.

Day 3 Without Her
I went to the garden plot today. The tomatoes we planted are rotting on the vines and falling into the dirt, and I couldn't even bring myself to pick a single one. Mom called me from the countryside asking why my voice sounded so strange. I lied and told her I just caught a cold. I can't go home, C.B. I don't deserve to smell the kerosene stove or laugh with my family while you're locked in a cold dark box beneath the ground. I miss your voice. I miss the way your hair smelled like wind and spring grass.

Day 4 Without Her
I ran on the track until three in the morning today. I ran a Runaway pace so hard my lungs tasted like rusted iron and blood dripped from my nose onto the turf. I kept looking over my shoulder at the final corner, waiting to hear your footsteps catching up to me from the back of the pack. *"Hey, Ace, let's play!"* That's what you always said, right? Why aren't you chasing me anymore? It's so empty at the front when nobody is coming for me. I love you, C.B. Please, just catch up to me.

Night 5 — 03:14 AM
It's pouring rain tonight. Your favorite weather. I came down to the riverbank where that bastard took you from me, and I lay down flat on my back in the mud. Remember how I used to brag that I was the best at playing dead on campus? I'm not breathing right now, C.B. My Sukajan is soaked through, the mud is freezing my spine, and I'm holding our photo from the dandelion field against my heart. If I stay completely still in the rain like this for just a little longer... do you think I'll finally wake up next to you?
