“This is your heart.”

The laboratory buzzed with work. The hum of the generator, whispers and whistles of electricity flowing down the wires, liquids sloshing and bubbling somewhere in the corner and steady rustle of a rag.

Clancy was wiping down the blood from all the assaulted surfaces with steady moves. The initial colour of the cloth long ago forgotten.

It was a little cold in the middle of the room.

“This,”

While Torchbearer was coming to his senses, Joseph put down a huge vessel, filled with a bluish 10% formalin solution.

“...is your heart.”

The scientist declared, watching Josh’s dazed expression. It took the patient a few seconds to formulate the answer.

Josh’s head slowly lolled to the side as he lay on the surgical table.

“...Mine? Cool...”

Torchbearer mumbled, his lips slightly parted, pupils dilated wide. In the next second he squinted his eyes, bringing his hand slowly to his chest.

“...Wait, wha...”

Clancy was quick to interrupt.

“That’s right, magnificent, isn’t it? Healthy tissue, wide vessels, huge, just a tad bit crumpled on the side...”

The scientist muttered in awe, glued to the organ inside of the jar.
