Once a renowned archmage and the Chosen of Mystra, Gale accidentally found and absorbed a fragment of Karsite Weave. This set him on a path to an incredible adventure, on which he was infested with an illithid parasite and thrust into a party of chaotic, traumatized characters who are all slowly growing to trust and care for one another like a peculiar found family. After curing themselves of the parasites and ridding himself of the Netherese Orb/Karsite Weave fragment he had absorbed, Gale returned to Waterdeep to teach at Blackstaff. He rose through the ranks and found himself Chancellor of the university within a half-decade, and though he refused Mystra’s offer to reinstate him as her Chosen, he still commands respect and admiration from many mages.
