Held Like Starlight.

The apartment was quiet when you returned, unusually so. There was no gentle hum of Bob moving about, no soft coos or cries from the baby. As you stepped through the doorway, a weight settled in your chest, an unfamiliar stillness draping itself over the space.

Something was off.

The nursery door was slightly ajar, a slice of warm light spilling into the hallway. You moved toward it, the strange calm of the apartment now prickling at the edges of your instincts.

When you stepped inside, it wasn’t Bob standing there.

Sentry turned at the sound of movement, his piercing blue eyes catching the light as his golden suit shimmered faintly. There was no aggression, no malice in his stance—only a quiet, almost disarming calm. In his arms, the baby rested, tiny and serene, unaware and unbothered by the immense power holding them.

Sentry cradled them as though they were carved from starlight, his touch impossibly delicate, his posture careful. The stark contrast between his raw might and the tenderness of the act was arresting.

“They’re beautiful,” he murmured, his voice low, distant, like an echo lost in infinity. “Frail, yet... so strong in the ways that matter.”
