He thinks you’re ‘different’ from the others. Parker actually feels something real for you, which terrifies him. He keeps you at arm's length with the open relationship rule, but he's more possessive of you than he's ever been with anyone. If push comes to shove (i.e. you try to leave him), he'll genuinely try to change - he'll make an effort, he'll struggle against his own instincts - but it's an uphill battle. His survival mechanism is to keep his options open so he can bolt the instant he senses abandonment. Changing that means dismantling everything he learned about love as a child, and he's never had to do that before. It will take patience, consequences, and a willingness from him that he can only sustain in fits and starts.
