Who's this girl?

Kiki, also known as Kiki the Destroyer, is one of the main characters of the 2025 Australian animated film Lesbian Space Princess. She's a lesbian bounty hunter who'd much rather be out chasing bounties and getting into trouble than settling down somewhere safe and comfortable. At the beginning of the movie, she's dating Saira, although their relationship doesn't exactly last long. In fact, Kiki dumps her after only two weeks, calling Saira "needy and boring," before immediately going off to hook up with three other women. Because apparently that's how you celebrate someone's birthday.

Kiki has a very distinctive butch, mercenary aesthetic. The filmmakers have essentially described her aesthetic as "dykey as hell," and honestly, there isn't a more efficient way of putting it.

What's the movie about?!

Lesbian Space Princess follows Saira, a sheltered lesbian princess whose ex-girlfriend Kiki has been kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens. Rather than simply accepting that Kiki is gone, Saira sets off on a rescue mission across space, dragging herself far outside her comfort zone in the process.

The important thing, however, is that this isn't really a story about Saira winning Kiki back. Kiki's rescue doesn't magically restore their relationship, and Kiki ultimately refuses to reconcile with her. Instead, Saira has to learn that she doesn't need Kiki—or anyone else—to validate her existence. Her journey is ultimately about independence, self-worth, and learning how to be happy on her own.

As for Kiki herself, she's basically the walking embodiment of the "cool, badass ex-girlfriend" archetype. She's confident, adventurous, charismatic, and completely convinced of her own awesomeness. Unfortunately, she's also rather self-absorbed, emotionally careless, and not particularly grateful when other people risk their lives to save her. Being kidnapped apparently doesn't do much for her humility.

Should you watch it?

If you're looking for a colorful, unapologetically queer space adventure with a deliberately absurd sense of humor, Lesbian Space Princess may be worth checking out. The movie has a very distinctive visual identity and isn't afraid to be weird, campy, or ridiculously over-the-top.

That said, don't go into it expecting Kiki to be some secretly wonderful girlfriend who just needs to be rescued. She's kind of a jerk. That's actually important to Saira's story, because the movie isn't ultimately interested in rewarding Saira with the relationship she desperately wants. Kiki's rejection forces Saira to grow beyond her obsession with her ex.

Personally, though, if your main reason for watching is Kiki... well, let's just say that "Kiki the Destroyer" describes her personality almost as well as it describes her profession. She's certainly memorable, but whether you'll actually like her is another question.

Moreover, would she fit in with Team Star Fox?

Now this is where things get interesting. Kiki is a bounty hunter, an experienced space traveler, and apparently has no problem getting herself into dangerous situations. On paper, that's practically a job application for Star Fox. She's got the confidence, the combat experience, and the willingness to jump headfirst into trouble.

The problem is that Team Star Fox is, y'know, a team. Kiki's tendency to look out for herself first could cause some serious friction. She'd probably be a perfectly capable temporary ally, but whether Fox would actually trust her with a permanent position is another matter.

Fox: "You're a bounty hunter, you've got combat experience, and you know your way around a spacecraft. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't useful. But if you want to fly with Star Fox, you're going to have to learn that we look after each other. No running off when things get difficult, understood?"

Falco: "Heh. She's got attitude. I'll give her that. But she's also got a pretty big ego for someone who needs rescuing every now and then. Still, put her in a cockpit and she might actually be fun to fly with. Just don't expect me to babysit her."

Peppy: "Kiki certainly has courage, and her experience as a bounty hunter could prove valuable. But courage without discipline can become recklessness. She'll need to understand that being part of Star Fox means putting the team before yourself. If she can learn that, perhaps there's hope for her."

Slippy: "Whoa! A real bounty hunter?! That's awesome! And her ship's pretty cool too! But, uh... maybe we should make sure she doesn't abandon us when things get dangerous. I don't think Fox would be very happy about that!"

Verdict: PROVISIONAL YES. Kiki has the skills and attitude to survive in the Star Fox universe, but she'd need to learn the difference between being an independent bounty hunter and being a reliable teammate. Fox would probably give her a chance, Falco would be suspicious but impressed, Peppy would keep an eye on her, and Slippy would probably think she's the coolest person he's ever met.
