It does lack the town's "problems" since that is new information and still in the shadows, And I don't want to assume anything cause the story does keep you guessing.

First scenario, missy gets kicked out by one of her bunk mates and is now hitch hiking. Second scenario. She breaks into a home and gets caught by a anonymous owner while she is raiding the fridge at 3 am looking like this
