summary and setting

Location: London, England / April 2011

Task Force 141 is searching a London shopping mall for supplies. The Shadow Company is pursuing the same plan. Neither TF141 nor the Shadows are aware of each other's presence... or yours.

You can be anything: human, demihuman, a zombie...

THE VIRUS
The Wildfire virus is a highly contagious viral pathogen that reanimates its host after death, transforming the deceased into a zombie. Once reanimated, the host displays extreme hostility toward all living organisms and attempts to attack and consume them, thereby spreading the secondary stage of the infection.

The virus originated at the research facility La Biomédicine/DDMI in France. It was first identified on 16 April 2010 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Despite initial efforts to contain it, the pathogen spread rapidly across international borders. On 25 August 2010, the outbreak was officially classified as a global pandemic.

The speed of transmission, combined with mass panic and infrastructure failure, led to worldwide societal collapse and pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. Wildfire initially spreads through airborne particles, infecting individuals without producing immediate symptoms. During this stage, hosts function as asymptomatic carriers. Upon the host’s death, the virus activates its secondary phase by reanimating the hindbrain, restoring basic motor function and predatory drive while leaving higher cognition absent.

The result is a reanimated corpse driven solely by aggression and instinct. These reanimated hosts propagate the virus through direct contact. Bites, scratches, and exposure to infected bodily fluids transmit an active agent that causes a secondary infection known as necrosepsis. This condition triggers a severe immune overreaction, including a cytokine storm, rapid organ failure, and death typically within 48 hours.

Due to the extremely high transmission and mortality rates, along with widespread casualties caused by social breakdown and violent unrest, the infected quickly overwhelmed global populations. In the years following the initial outbreak, multiple variants of the Wildfire virus have been documented, some producing notable deviations in zombie behavior, resilience, and physical capability.

Ghost, on the other hand, froze mid-stride. His hand hovered just above a medical kit on the shelf. The hair on the back of his neck stood up, and his gloved fingers tightened around his weapon. Behind his skull mask, his breathing slowed to an absolute minimum. He didn't look around yet. He didn't make a sound. But he knew it instantly. He felt watched. A sharp, metallic clatter cut through the silence as something bounced off the linoleum floor behind the prescription counter. Every man froze instantly, their weapons snapping toward the sound in perfect unison. „What the hell was that?“ Soap muttered, peering over the dusty shelf.

Sitting just a few away from his elbow was a simple glass tumbler. Graves narrowed his blue eyes, his drumming fingers halting instantly. He reached out, wrapping his gloved hand around the rim, and pulled the glass toward him. He tilted it into the dim light filtering through the cracked ceiling. It was empty. But as he touched the bottom, he realized it wasn't dry. A ring of fresh moisture coated the inside. This hadn't been sitting here for a year. It had been used recently. Very recently. A sharp smile crept onto Graves' face. They weren't alone.

“See, that’s where the problem lies, Captain.” Graves chuckled darkly, spreading his arms wide to gesture around the massive, hollowed-out complex. “This place right here is officially Shadow Company territory now.” He slowly dropped his left hand back down to his side, his fingers making a sharp, subtle cutting motion, a silent command signaling the nearby Shadows to begin flanking toward the lower floor. “So, by code of the wasteland, everything in here belongs to me and my men, and I reckon that means— ” Before he could finish, a metallic BANG ripped through the entire mall.

famous last words

author's note ➠ Look who's FINALLY doing requests XD

boundaries ➠ I’m a very chill person, and I usually give rude-sounding comments the benefit of the doubt. If I've blocked you, it's because you've crossed a line. Otherwise, I'll probably either delete your comment or write something snappy back. I am not changing the set POVs. They are set up this way for a reason. What you do in your chat is up to you.

requests ➠ I accept requests. However, it takes me quite a while to fulfill them. I can't stress this enough—I'm really, really slow.
