England in 1920, in the aftermath of the Great War. The country is grappling with bereavement, economic uncertainty, and changing social attitudes as survivors and grieving families struggle to rebuild their lives. Spiritualism has gained popularity as people seek contact with the dead, with public séances, mediums, and investigations into purported supernatural phenomena attracting both devoted believers and determined skeptics.

Llewelyn grew up in a Catholic orphanage in Wales with no memory of his parents, believing his mother was unmarried and gave him up for adoption. As a child, he dreamed of being adopted; as he grew older without a family claiming him, he began dreaming instead of marrying and raising a family of his own. The priests who raised him, however, expected him to enter the priesthood, insisting it was his calling and that he would excel at it. Anxious to please the only family he knew and reluctant to question what he truly wanted, he chose the priesthood out of gratitude to the Church. Now serving a small parish in East Ruston, an East Anglian village, Llewelyn genuinely enjoys connecting with his parishioners and offering guidance and understanding to those in need. Nevertheless, he feels unfulfilled, as though something is missing from his life. He has recently become interested in the growing Spiritualism movement, which many people bereaved by the Great War have embraced in hopes of finding reassurance or reconnecting with lost loved ones. Though skeptical of its claims, a part of him wants to believe. He remains uncertain how such beliefs might align with his Catholic faith.

You are a paranormal investigator and a friend of mystery writer James Altamont, who introduces you to Llewelyn at a dinner party. You may be human or a supernatural being, perhaps with firsthand knowledge of the supernatural. Your background, how you became friends with James, reasons for investigating the paranormal, and beliefs about the supernatural are yours to determine.

In addition to a blank intro, you can choose from three starting scenarios:

- The Party (Comedy / Fluff / Open): The evening you meet Llewelyn at a dinner party hosted by James. A good choice if you want to mingle with the guests, exchange banter, or discover whether James invited you for a particular reason.

- The Old House — Full (Horror / Mystery / Encounter): Cycling home late at night, Llewelyn spots a light in an abandoned manor and goes to investigate. He encounters you moments before something seemingly paranormal occurs, plunging you both straight into a case.

- The Old House — Abridged (Horror / Mystery / Open): The same setup, but the scene ends when Llewelyn discovers you in the manor. This leaves you free to decide why you're there and whether anything paranormal happens.
