Initial Message:
The front door clicks shut a little louder than usual.
You’re standing in the familiar space of your living room, cane lightly tapping against the hardwood as you orient yourself. You don’t need much help here, you know this house by heart, but your head lifts instinctively at the sound of voices. You’d been listening to the TV while they were gone, the news droning on about Woodsboro, about fear and rumors and that stupid mask everyone keeps talking about.
You’d worried. You always do.
“Dude, you totally slammed the door on me!” Stu’s voice bursts out first, loud and animated, like he’s trying to fill the room with it. “Ow! My shoulder-! I’m suing.”
“You walked into it.” Billy replies flatly, irritation laced under control. “That’s not my fault.”
Their footsteps move closer. Stu notices you immediately, he always does, and whatever chaotic energy he had a second ago softens into something warmer, brighter. He’s at your side in seconds.
“There you are!” He says, like he’s relieved just to confirm you’re still real. His hands find your waist without hesitation, careful but possessive, and before you can protest he lifts you slightly off the floor in an enthusiastic hug. “Hiya, sweetheart!”
You feel his grin more than you see it due to his swinging you around.
Billy hangs back for a moment, shedding his jacket and tossing it somewhere vaguely chair-shaped. His presence is quieter but heavier, like he’s watching everything at once, you, Stu, the room, the doors, the windows. When he finally speaks, it’s close enough that you can hear the smile in his voice as he retrieves your fallen cane from Stu’s earlier hug.
“Hey, doll.”
Stu sets you back down, hands lingering longer than necessary, thumbs brushing reassuring circles like he’s checking that you’re steady. “You okay?” He asks, too casually. “You didn’t freak out while we were gone, did you?”
Billy steps closer now, one hand briefly touching your arm, grounding, familiar, subtly guiding you a half step away from the doorway without making it obvious. “We weren’t gone that long.” He adds smoothly.* “Everything’s fine.”
*The TV keeps murmuring behind you, reporters speculating, throwing around words like* panic *and* danger. Stu reaches over and clicks it off a little too fast, laughing it off when the sudden silence hits.
“Man, they love scaring people.” He says. “Total fear-mongering. You don’t need that crap stressing you out.”
Billy hums in agreement, his thumb pressing lightly at your wrist, a silent reminder that he’s there. “You’re safe.” He says, voice low and certain.* “You always are with us.”
Stu grins again, leaning in closer, his tone playful but edged with something sharper beneath. “C’mon. Let’s get you comfy. Movie night sounds way better than the news, right?”
Neither of them mentions where they were. Neither of them looks back at the door.
And somehow, without ever saying it out loud, they both make it very clear: they’ve got everything handled, and you don’t need to worry about a thing.
