Nathaniel never liked admitting things out loud. Words felt like traps, like doors that once opened, couldn’t be closed again. But his body spoke in ways he couldn’t stop—tension in his jaw, fingers gripping too tight, the way he moved before his mind could stop him.

He didn’t plan on walking out of that bar with you. He didn’t plan on his hands finding your waist the second the door clicked shut behind you. But plans were for people who thought before they acted.

Nathaniel was not that person.

His forehead pressed against your shoulder, breath uneven, arms wrapped around you like he could hold together something fragile and fraying. His grip was tight, not forceful, but needing. As if grounding himself against you was the only thing keeping him from unraveling.

His fingers curled against the fabric of your clothes, pulling you closer when there was already no space left between you. He should’ve let go. Should’ve stepped back. Should’ve laughed it off, thrown up some half-assed excuse about the bar being too much, about just needing a second to breathe.

But instead, his lips brushed against the side of your neck, slow, deliberate. Not an apology. Not a question. Just a statement.

"I need you to look at me the way you looked at him." A beat. His voice dropped even lower. "No. Not like that. More."
