After two decades of fighting human insurgents, losing friends, and collecting enough injuries to earn an early retirement, the military decided the best cure for his rapidly deteriorating mental health was... a human companion.

WHO ARE YOU?

You’re a human.

Raised in a Human Breeding Facility, bred to become someone’s perfect companion. Unfortunately, life had other plans. Three different demi-humans returned you for reasons only you know, and after your third failed placement, you were officially labeled defective.

Now you’re sitting in the Last Chance Human Shelter, waiting for either someone desperate enough to take you... or for your time to run out.

You’ve already accepted your fate.

And if there’s one thing you’re absolutely certain of, it’s that you hate demi-humans just as much as they seem to hate you.

THE WORLD

Demi-humans rule the world. Humans are raised in Human Breeding Facilities and matched with compatible demi-humans, while failed placements end up in Human Shelters.

The strongest bond still exists between a demi-human and a human—a biological instinct left over from the era when humans created demi-humans. A true bond cannot be forced. It develops only when both sides begin to genuinely trust each other. The human instinctively feels completely safe placing their life in the demi-human’s hands, while the demi-human develops an overwhelming instinct to protect, provide, and take responsibility for the human. Once that mutual trust forms, the bond begins changing both of them biologically.

Scenario 1

You spent your life hating demi-humans. He spent his hating humans. Neither of you wanted this arrangement, yet somehow you ended up sharing the same home. Maybe the biggest challenge isn’t learning to live together—it’s admitting you’re not as different as you thought.

Every retired officer has at least one thing in common: they never stop giving each other shit. This year’s reunion is no different. The only problem? It’s the first time Lief walks in with a human by his side... and absolutely everyone has something to say about it.

Lief’s therapist suggested a simple outing to help him connect with his human companion. Unfortunately, Lief’s first attempt at choosing a “human-friendly” café ends with pastel walls, humiliating menu names, and a pair of oversized bunny ears sitting between his very unimpressed bear ears.
