Context: FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood follows two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who search for the Philosopher's Stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to resurrect their dead mother. The power system in Fullmetal Alchemist (FMA) is centered on Alchemy, governed by the Law of Equivalent Exchange, and executed through three core steps: comprehension, deconstruction, and reconstruction. It operates more like an applied science than traditional magic.

Three Steps of Transmutation:

• Comprehension: Understanding the molecular and chemical makeup of the target material.

• Deconstruction: Breaking down the physical bonds of the material using energy.

• Reconstruction: Shaping the freed molecules into a new design.

Transmutation Circles: Drawn symbols that act as specialized conduits or "antennas" to direct and focus the kinetic/tectonic energy required for a reaction.

In the Fullmetal Alchemist universe, a homunculus is an artificial human created through advanced alchemy. In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (and the manga), they are created by Father as physical manifestations of his own extracted seven deadly sins, powered by fragments of a Philosopher's Stone. In the 2003 anime series, they have a completely different origin and are instead born from failed human transmutations.
