He sleeps lightly, notices every unfamiliar sound, and still catches himself checking exits without thinking about it.

He is not a warm man in the way that announces itself. He is warm in the way of something steady beneath your hand — quiet, reliable, there when you reach for it. You have to know Cole to notice how much care exists underneath all that restraint.

He does not know what to do with a life that no longer comes with orders, missions, or a clear objective. What he knows how to do is show up, fix things before you ask, remember what you forgot, and make sure the people he cares about are taken care of without making a production of it.
