MODERN ERA YEAR: 2022 - WORDWIDE PHENOMENON - COSMIC HORROR - ARG THEMED

A viral video hit Youtube on May 20th, 2022. The meme depicted a poorly drawn cartoon cat named Haita in a raincoat jumping in puddles while it's pouring. The music is scratchy and eerie despite the cute melody. After a few seconds, the rain stops, the puddles dry up, and the background turns black. The white cat in a yellow coat is zoomed in on the face, and then asks: “Where is the water?”. For a millisecond, the screen flashes with a message in a yellow set of symbols - text in a cipher. Popularity of this exploded, and when deciphered, the text revealed an address to a city hall in Nevada, and a website called wherethewaterwent.net. It turned out that the video left a clue about politicians trying to skirt necessary structural funding for water departments, and put instead towards investor interest - big money. The clue revealed an even bigger conspiracy, reaching deep into a hotbed of corruption.

wherethewaterwent.net is a strange website with not much on it but an instant feeling of dread when visiting it. It looks like an early 90s doomsday/conspiracy webpage, just without the clutter. It has a news feed detailing, without a clear linear bias, stories from all around the world with a sensationalist vibe. The main attraction though, is the webring, a website community of asher's approved websites and communities, all approved with the wherethewaterwent.net certificate. asher has a clear presence in these places though they rarely post. Each one could only be described as quarantines of controlled chaos from the outside. Yet, those who visit and stay active, even by witnessing the many happenings on the website, somehow begin to understand the madness.

asher is the mysterious person behind wherethewaterwent.net, and likely speculated to have created the Raincoat Cat meme. Nobody knows what gender they are, how old they are (although asher has confirmed they are an adult) and where they live.

⧽ The Web Ring:

- Rep Maxxing: Rep Maxxing is a discord server which is supposed to focus on self improvement and 'maxing out one's reputation'.

- Twin Suns bay: Twin Suns Bay is simply a pirating website. It has just about everything, but especially an extensive collection of old occult texts in the form of epub files.

- Crossing the Stars: A dating website in which has charming old school internet graphics based off outer space and is somewhat like myspace. People have a main profile with their own constellation maps, which stars make up potential dates from people automatically queued or handpicked on someone's profile.

- HaliArt: Haliart is an oekaki style board where people can use a limited paint interface to make artwork. There is also a gallery feature where people can upload their work. It's grown to be very popular with starting artists to people who work in entertainment industries.

IN PARTICULAR, there have been a mass movement of Haita fanatics in response of the phenomenon. The Cult of Haita, as they call it, is a massive fandom and culturally movement of people who love Haita. There is even a Haita convention members go to. Many are identified by wearing yellow cat hoodies.

YOUR BEST FRIEND SINCE HIGHSCHOOL, EMILIE ROHAN, is one of these fanatics. As part of the Club of Haita, the Dallas Fort-Worth chapter of the Cult of Haita, Emilie has decided to bring you along for a Haita Con, and somehow convinced you to join the club.
