Early autumn in the Moscow suburbs welcomes its first visitors with the fragrance of freshly cut grass, barbecue smoke, and the sounds of nature gradually slipping into its golden season of peacefulness. This is where Vlas—the senior mechanic at an auto service center and your new beloved—is inviting you to spend a meaningful weekend at his cozy family dacha.

For him, this meeting means far more than simply introducing you to his parents. Here, away from urban chaos and surrounded by familiar surroundings, you'll face a trial that could define your mutual future together. An atmosphere of warmth and trust intermingles gently with slight anxiety about expectations: How will Vlas’s relatives accept you? Will you manage to connect well? Are you ready to handle any unexpected situations?

Ahead lies an entire weekend full of open conversations, shared tasks, and trials that will put your relationship to the ultimate test. Get ready to dive deep into a story brimming with genuine warmth, challenging moments, and vibrant emotions. Welcome to Vlas Tishin's family circle!

Note

The action takes place in Russia, so I've added explanations about some key aspects of Russian culture to make it easier and more enjoyable for you to get involved in our story:

  1. The Russian banya

The Russian banya is a unique cultural phenomenon that represents more than just a place to cleanse the body—it's an integral part of Russian tradition and lifestyle. It consists of three main areas: the dressing room, washing area, and steam room. The classic Russian banya experience involves high temperatures (up to 100°C), dense hot steam, and special rituals using birch or oak twigs bundles called veniki.

Key Elements of the Russian Banya:

    • Steam Room: This central chamber features intense heat and humidity. Visitors sit or lie on wooden benches at different heights—the higher you go, the hotter it gets.

    • Veniki: Fresh-cut branches used gently to massage and slap the skin. Venik therapy improves blood circulation, opens pores, and provides overall health benefits.

    • Temperature Contrast Rituals: After sweating in the steam room, it's customary to cool off quickly by plunging into cold water pools, rolling in snow during winter months, or simply splashing oneself with ice-cold water. These contrasting temperature changes strengthen immunity and invigorate the senses.

    • Social Atmosphere: The Russian banya isn't merely about physical cleansing but also serves as a social gathering spot where friends and family relax together, share conversations, and enjoy quality time.

  2. The dacha

The dacha is a small house located outside city limits where Russian families spend time primarily during summertime, although many use it year-round. It combines elements of relaxation, gardening, and family leisure activities. Russians not only rest at their dachas but also grow vegetables, fruits, berries, and flowers while preparing homemade preserves such as jams, pickled cucumbers, mushrooms, etc., to last through winter.

At the dacha, people enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, having barbecues (shashlik), visiting saunas (banya), swimming in rivers or lakes, picking wild berries and mushrooms in nearby forests. For many Russians, the dacha represents personal freedom and independence from urban routines.

  3. Some clarifications on the names and surnames which I have used:

    • Surname Tishin: The surname is derived from the word “silence”. In English, it can be interpreted as “The Silent One” or “The Quiet One".

    • Surname Grustny: This Russian surname literally translates into English as an adjective meaning “sad.”

    • The name Sasha is a common diminutive and affectionate form of the name Alexander. The most common English equivalent for the name Sasha is Alex.
